Yay,
LET'S GET SOME DISCUSSIONS GOING.

What's your favorite video game(s)? You can list them however you want, by genre, or just your overall one. Post and discuss which is your favorite video game here!

I can't really decide which one's my favorite, but if I really had to choose I'd say... Tales of Symphonia, judging by how many times I've replayed it and how much time I've got on it. Heh.

Odin Sphere, Okami and any Legend of Zelda game are runner-ups.

Thiers a couple of Games from different Generes I'de say were my favorite, but right now I'm feeling the Soul Reaver series as my top favorite. I just love it so much 8D
I mean, if you strip it right down to its gameplay its a block puzzle adventure game with a bit of combat to mix it up, but to reduce it to that is entirly missing the greatest things about the game! The voice acting is the best I've seen in anything previous or since and the plot is magnificant.
The first game is a bit thin on these factors, but it compensates for having an excelent sence of setting. You really feel the dark broodyness of it. The other two games however are much more plot intensive. It unfolds excelently and gets you thinking and guessing all the time. Some of the twists are genuinly suprising as well ^^
So yeah, thats my favorite game for the moment XD (Even if it is a series~)

Half life 2 (series): It appears that everything that Valve makes is pure gold; genuinely amazing. The atmosphere is great: gritty and realistic, with many varied and interesting locales, like sprawling cityscapes, sandy beaches, highways, ghost-towns, a futuristic citadel, forests, caves, a prison...etc etc. These act as the perfectly constructed sets for the shooty mayhem that the game throws your way. After a slow introduction to the characters, and the setting, you are eventually reunited with your "Mk 5 hazardous environment suit" which is basically power-armour, left over from your scientist days. You go around the near-apocalyptic earth, under occupation by the Combine, a race of aliens who span many universes.

Your task is to rid earth of their influence, by siding with the human resistance who are fighting against the Combine opression. The gameplay is standard fayre, really; basic first-person-shooter game mechanics; but there's something else there too. The AI is smart, teaming up on you at every opportunity; and the addition of a few original weapons gives this game a refreshing twist.

The first original weapon is the Gravity Gun ("Zero-point energy field manipulator") which can be used to lift and throw heavy objects (radiators, bricks, razor-blades, exploding barrels etc etc.) to aid in combat, or to solve puzzles.

The second original weapon is the Pherapod ("Bugbait") which is an organic extract of the Antlions (an enormous and highly evolved alien species that work as a hive, like ants) which can be used to control hoardes of antlion soldiers against the combine forces.

The characters are believable and well-designed; making use of realistic motion-capture and well-scripted voice acting.

Driving is also a fun addition to this game, with certain sections of the game being set in wide open waterways, forests and highways that require the use of vehicles to traverse.

Overall, this is a fantastic game with very few flaws at all; and you can get the whole series so far (the final episode isn't out yet) for about £6 in the Orange Box (which comes bundled with Portal and Team Fortress 2).

Beams of fire sweep through my head
thrusts of pain increasingly engaged,
sensory receptors succumb,
I am no one now,
only agony.

My crimson liquid so frantically spilled,
salivating red,
at the prospect of my ruin,
my doom.

Still keen on Keane
Lesse, I love strategy games and out of that my favorites must be Anno 1701 and the Civilization series. Other that that I don't have specific favourites, but many many games I casually like. Such as the games I play on my DS and other pc games.

Veteran... Wait, what?
My favourite genre, has to be RPGs, but my favourite game? PC-wise, WoW. But as it's not my account I don't play all that often. For consoles... I love the entire Shin Megami Tensei series, my absolute favourite being 'Persona 3 - Fes', if you have played Persona 3, Fes is the extended version and is awesome.
But they aren't my only favourites, 'cause there's Okami, Ratchet, Jak, Primal, ZOE, inFamous, Sly and Beyond Good and Evil. So If I was forced under pain of death to announce my favourite game, I'd say Persona 3 - Fes. Like I'd my favouite type of meat is venison, I like salmon too, but the flavours are too differnt to decide between the two easily.
However, if you like RPGs and you see a game with Shin Megami Tensei in the title, or accompanied by a little pentagram on the cover, or the game has Raidou Kuzanoha in the title...
Buy... the... game.

Poetry eh? Well then... (Strav gets an evil glimmer in his eye.) B-)

HAIKU MODE!

Just what can I say?
Shin Megami Tensei is,
RPG Magic.

A spell, a shot. Then-!
Flash! Demons, swarming. Hunger.
Junkyard's silver rain.

To the victor go the spoils...
Considering that I have been playing video games since I was 4 and my collection currently stands at 237 (n ot including digital downloads), asking me to choose even a few favourite games is quite a task.
Still...
Resident Evil 1 for the memories and sheer proof that a 7 year old playing an 18+ games is fine if the game LOOKS NOTHING LIKE REAL LIFE WHATSOEVER, Resi 2/3 for the enjoyment factors and Resi 5 for the co-op.
Final Fantasy 7 for introducing me to my favourite genre of the RPG (A £30 game giving you 70+ hours of gaming? Value for money of wot'?) and most other RPGs I've played since, the Wild Arms series being a favourite.
Civilisation for allowing me to rule the world if only inside a box and Command And Conquer for letting me destroy it.
Half-Life 2, Fallout 3 and Bioshock for showing me that games CAN do decent story and immersion.
And lastly the GTA series for appealing to the anarchist-within.

Hm... picking and choosing is hard... let's think...
Sonic 3 & Knuckles was awesome. It may be old, but I do still play it, and I do still thoroughly enjoy it. I've finished it multiple times, with pretty much every character, and as old-school games go, it has to be one of my favourites.
Phantasy Star IV is a brilliant game, which got me into RPGs, what I identify to be my favourite genre. It's also the first game I'd turn on purely to go to the music menu and listen to a track.
Final Fantasy VII, however a stereotypical choice it may be, is a brilliant game, and anyone who hasn't tried it should be shot... or at least should try the game themselves.
Devil May Cry. The first one, not the third one, even if the third one is generally cited by people to be better. I just loved the original, and will forever be obsessed with the 'devil trigger' forms. Lightning suckas.
And finally, Okami. I kind of didn't buy it when I first saw it in store, the case did a terrible job of selling it to me, and I LOVE wolves. After hearing good things though, I finally bought it, and am currently storming through it.
