TEAM

1) What is the approved number of members per group?

3-4 members are permitted per team.

2) Can the team be made up of members from different schools or categories?

Yes, teams can be made up of people from different schools and categories. A team comprising of members from different categories will be judged under Category A, i.e. as a University team. If members come from different educational institutions within a category, they will be judged under the said category.

3) Am I eligible for the competition if I am currently awaiting entry to a tertiary institution? What should I fill in under the “School” field of the registration form?

Yes. You will however be considered a University Student and your team will fall under Category A. Under the “School” field, you are required to enter “Awaiting Posting”.

4) Can non-Singaporeans take part in the competition?

Our committee welcomes participants of all nationalities to sign up, as long as they belong to a local educational institution.

5) Is there an age limit for participants?

There is no age limit for participants. However, all participants must be enrolled in either a Polytechnic/Junior College/Institute of Technical Education/Tertiary Institution at the point of registration.

REGISTRATION

6) Do I need prior knowledge on Social Entrepreneurship to be eligible for the competition?

No prior knowledge of social entrepreneurship is required. All applicants will receive training to equip them with information and necessary skills to carry out the Challenge. Resources on Social Entrepreneurship are also made available on the website.

7) Is there any Registration Fee applicable here?

No registration fees are required as the entire project is funded by the Central Singapore CDC.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

8) What are the requirements for the executive summary?

Short and sweet. Yes, that’s right. An executive summary outlines the details of the entire business in a concise manner. The summary should provide essential information about the company, the product/service, the market for the product/service, sales and finances. More details can be found under the “Resources” Section. Participants are also welcome to e-mail us at feedback@mise.com.sg should they require further assistance.

9) If I did not attend the executive summary workshop, can I still submit the executive summary?

Our committee welcomes all participants to submit their executive summaries for evaluation by the panel, regardless of whether or not they have attended the executive summary workshop.

10) If I was not short-listed for the executive summary workshop, can I still submit the summary?

In the event that there is overwhelming response, we might not be able to accommodate all applicants. As such, we will consider selecting applicants to attend the workshop. Applicants who do not get short-listed for the workshop are still welcome to submit their summaries for evaluation by the panel and are eligible to move on to subsequent rounds.

11) Must I choose a VWO from the CDC’s list?

Yes. As this is an initiative by the Central Singapore CDC, all beneficiaries should preferably be from the Central Singapore District. There are 263 VWOs based in Central Singapore District alone. Hence, applicants do not have to worry about not being able to find a VWO that best fits their business model.

12) Will the organizer notify only applicants short-listed for each round?

It is our policy to inform all applicants whether or not they have been selected to proceed on to the next round. Hence, applicants who are not short-listed will be informed as well.

BUSINESS PLAN

13) What happens if a VWO rejects our proposal?

If the first VWO rejects your team you can still fall back on the second, which you should have chosen beforehand. If the 2nd VWO also rejects your team, you will be disqualified.

JUDGING

14) Who are the members of the judging panel and what are their backgrounds?

Our judges are all current members of the Social Enterprise Committee under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. Hence, they will be sufficiently informed in this area.
