Categories Category A - Universities Category B - Institutes of Technical Education, Junior Colleges and Polytechnics Structure of Competition The Challenge organized in the following 6 major phases • Phase One: Open round of application by participants - Participants will provide basic information about team members as well as a short paragraph on their area of interest (I.e. Disadvantaged children, disabled etc). • Phase Two: The 40 short-listed teams (20 teams from each category) will attend a one day executive summary workshop to learn how to draft an executive summary. Participants who are unable to attend the executive summary workshop will still be eligible for the competition. • Phase Three: After the executive summary submission, 20 short-listed teams (10 teams from each category) will generate a business plan based on a given template (downloaded from the MISE website) with the VWO of their choice. Teams have to choose a VWO within the Central Singapore District (the comprehensive list of VWOs can be found on the Resources Page) and their choices should be aligned to the broad category of interest they have specified earlier. A two-day business plan development workshop will also be organized for the participants to assist them in writing the business plan. • Phase Four: 6 teams will be selected from the 20 short-listed teams at an evaluation session by the judging panel from the Social Enterprise Committee. There will be a Final Day Event where guest speakers will be invited to share their thoughts and the 6 teams will present their business plans to the judges from MCYS and SIP. The Mayor of Central Singapore CDC will be invited to attend as the Guest of Honour. • Phase Five: These 6 final teams will be strongly encouraged to implement their business plans. They will be assigned mentors from the Social Innovation Park to guide them during this phase. • Phase Six: These 6 teams will then present their business development and financial reports to the judging panel again, in order to determine the success of the social enterprise. A final prize giving ceremony will be held. Prizes Business Plan Presentation Round Category A / Category B 1st Prize- $4000/$3000 2nd Prize- $3000/$2000 3rd Prize- $2000/$1000 Each Category - 2 Social Innovation Awards Category A - $1000 per team Category B - $800 per team Note: The abovementioned prizes are awarded to participants for the quality of their proposals. This money will not go towards the implementation of their projects in Phase 2. Funding for implementation phase will be provided under the Mayor’s Imagine Fund.
