![]() Synopsis War of the Holy Grail - Pursuing the power of the "Holy Grail" which grants a miracle, this is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete for it. In that battle whose conclusion was postponed three times, now, the fourth war commenced again. Entrusting their dearest wish of victory, the magi joined the battleground called "Fuyuki", but amongst them, there was a man who was always alone, and could not find out the meaning behind his fights. His name was Kotomine Kirei. Not comprehending the guidance of fate, Kirei was lost, and had kept questioning. Why someone like his was given the Command Seals. However, the fate of his fights crossed Kirei's path with a nemesis by chance. That person is - Emiya Kiritsugu. A man who was sterner than anyone else, more merciless than anyone else, and who sought the miracle of the Holy Grail. Merely recited in fragments in Fate/Stay Night, this is the Fourth War of the Holy Grail 10 years ago. The truth which unfolded behind the battle between Shirou's foster father, Rin's father, and the younger Kotomine Kirei, is finally revealed... One of the most hyped series of the season, it being the adaption of the prequel to the massively popular Fate/Stay Night VN. With Urobuchi Gen as the creator, the story is exceptional (many fans prefer it over Fate/Stay Night). The adaptions of the Fate and Unlimited Blade Works by Studio Deen was widely criticized for poor animation, but with the venerable ufotable (who brilliantly animated the Kara no Kyoukai movie series) doing the animation this time around this does not seem to be a problem. Plus Kajiura Yuki is composing the music, which is fantastic (Her Kara no Kyoukai soundtrack was brilliant). Ep 1 impression: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. ufotable is incredible. The animation/art is gorgeous, especially the backgrounds. Not so much action in this first ep (roughly 50 min) but if the quality keeps up for the rest of the season, GG. The summoning scene at the end was all sorts of epic, especially with Kajiura's beautiful scores playing. She seems to be returning to a Kara no Kyoukai-sounding OST for Fate/Zero and it sounds brilliant. Can't wait for next week! |

As with everybody else who posts on this topic: I am very excited about this series. Most fate/stay night fans will probably have a knowledge of who dies and who lives (but only to be killed later) in this particular work, so I am not too expecting Ufotable to pull off any crazy plot twists; what I'm expecting from this show is a solid, non-plot-hole-filled plot, dramatic moments used to their best in order to provide one heck of an experience for the audience. The first episode served as a nice introduction, and as such lacked much drama or action. Though seeing the servants being summoned with the accompanying yuki kajiura BGM was really nice, I expect the show to reach much higher levels of epicness; I mean seriously, this is one of the shows that I hope will actually get a 10-9/10. (For your information I gave Madoka a 8/10) ALSO: I expect this show to be in alot of ways, very gory. (Reference to Saya no Uta, F/SN VN, and Nitroplus's involvement in muvluv alter) Edited by -entropy, Oct 2 2011, 09:55 PM.

prediction for deaths: Irisviel - reason: she doesn't appear in F/SN and is such a major character to Kiritsugu, so it'll be strange for her not to die Toosaka Aoi and Tokiomi - reason: cuz F/SN said so. Probably killed by Kiritsugu or something, probably involves kotomine as well Kotomine Kirei's dad - reason: I mean for kotomine's transformation into a person whom freely expresses that he enjoys evil, his dad, whom is his shackles, has to die Kariya: dude's gonna die sooner or later all servants except for saber and archer maybe one more name just because it's Urobuchi Gen writing the script... |

True. Beauty of Fate/zero was the fact that it was immensely enjoyable even though you could predict what some things would happen. Fate/Zero for the first episode is doing extremely well although wished there was more drama between the characters. Music so far is top notch along with animation as expected from Ufotable. One thing I do have a problem with is the directing. Characters pointlessly walking around. Especially the scene where Tohsaka is walking in a circle around Kirei and where Matou is circling Kariya. A little distracting.Hope there isn't any of this in further episodes.Voice acting is pretty good but Kirei's voice seems out of place. It was good for the older version of him but younger version not as good. Kariya definitely was my highlight of this first episode (as well as the novel )along side the appearances of the servants. Also wasn't even sure the Sakura scene was going to be shown in the first ep. Was mentally unprepared. IT was HORRIBLE. The OP itself is pretty good although it kind of seems like two different songs. Liked the second part more than the first. The ED song for Fate/Zero is a very suitable song that has grabbed my interests as well not sure how well the animation will hold up with the song. Edited by Tsurugikarasu, Oct 3 2011, 08:53 PM.

tsurugikarasu: -For the circling part; I thought it was actually quite nicely done in Kirei's scene anyways; I interpreted it as a symbolism for Kirei suppressing his true desire in order to obey his father and tousaka, and the circling part was merely a way of showing how he is trapped. (though that is just me as a fail A level english student speaking, so don't worry about it) -And yes, Kirei's voice doesn't fit... it should sound less calm and more lively; I don't think Kirei has acknowledged that he is innately evil yet. Impx: -Yes, the commie encode is actually fail... for a 10bit H264 anyways hmmm.... for some random reasons, I am at a divide now... Should I A.Wait for half a year and then marathon the anime B.Follow the anime on a weekly basis C.Read the light novel then try to enjoy the anime D.Wait weekly and then marathon the anime series again and then read the light novel just because it's a work by nasu and Gen (and it's probably worth the trouble) E.Fate/hollow ataraxia hmmmmm.......
