I would like some advice, if I'm allowed :)

Sometimes I feel emotional, which can affect the people around me, do you know a way to stop this from happening, so I can try to control when I go on and off?

Hi John,
Well, there is nothing wrong with feeling emotional. All of us do sometimes. There are a number of ways that are out there for people to help themselves to slow down and relax when they start getting stressed out though.

One way is to take what they call cleansing breaths. Have you tried a slow, deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth? Three times in a row.

Another way is what they call visualization. If there is a place that you have been to that makes you feel relaxed, you can picture it in your mind. Try to make it a complete picture though. Think of not only the sights, but the sounds and smells and how it feels to be there. Try and put yourself there in your own mind. This may work with not using a place, but maybe imagining a song, a game, anything that makes you feel relaxed.

One thing that may help that I know many people use is that when they start feeling themselves getting too upset, they walk away from the situation to calm down and then come back later when they are feeling like they can deal with it easier. Of course, if that means walking away from a person that you care about, maybe you might want to let that person know ahead of time that you feel that instead of arguing, it might be best if you just walked away and calmed down and thought about things first. This can frequently help avoid arguments.

These are merely suggestions, and not anything that is guaranteed. Everybody is different, and the choice of what to do is always yours.

Please let me know if these suggestions do not work for you. There are other ways of accomplishing the same thing.
