Wayne chuckled at her comments about not needing any help in the water and watched her as she submerged herself and swam around him before resurfacing and splashing water at him. He grinned and brought up one of his arms as if to ward off the water, despite the fact that he was already completely wet anyways. His mind was still wandering about how she had managed to stay afloat as well as many other things that he wished to bring up with her, but decided against; especially since he was truly enjoying the time that he was spending with her right now. Everything with her felt so right that he didn't want it to end.

She then brought up his previous comment of liking to read. He kind of shrugged as he floated there in the water, returning the smile that she gave him with one of his own. "I'll read anything really," he said, continuing to smile at her. "Though to be honest, I really enjoy reading books about our history, and how we are as people. I also enjoy the military aspect of history as well.......and when I get tired of all reading how historians can't agree whose version of history is right, I can always settle for a nice work of fiction."

Lily considered Wayne carefully, her curiosity was just begging her to ask more. But she would not, not yet. It would not be fair to ask something she could not freely answer herself. “That’s very interesting. There is much to be learned from books.” She said with a smile. She herself loved reading, almost as much as her father had. She looked away as a cloud of pain came over her at the memory of her parents home, the library she’d spent so many hours in. All the moments she’d shared with her father, the many times he’d read her to sleep. “It is not often that one comes across a person that has the time or patience for books you know.” She said as she resumed her swimming.

He’d mentioned having an interest in the military subject. She’d wondered if he’d ever served the kingdom. If such was the case then perhaps he would not like her so much. Being the daughter of a Knight gone Mercenary. And though all of that had happened before either her or Wayne had been born… there was bound to still be talk of her father amongst the King’s Knights. But Lily had always been proud of her father, never ashamed of him, he’d done what he had thought to be right instead of continuing to serve a king in which he had no faith in.

“So, what else can you do? Aside from swimming that is, can you actually fish?” She said, remembering him mentioning he’d caught no fish at all the day they’d met, and he’d actually released the one fish she’d caught.

Wayne studied her reaction and was pleased to hear that she too shared an interest in the written word. Even when he had been younger, Wayne had always been interested in reading, which was something that had separated him from most the other boys in his age group. Even when he had been training to be a knight, every so often he would have shirked his duties in order to finish reading a book. However, once he had become a fully-fledged knight, he had begun to take his duty far more seriously, with his only reading being military manuscripts of past campaigns and military exploits. Then the trouble with his newly-developed ability began and he was soon forced to leave the royal guard. Then once he had joined up with the mercenary group, time had been to scarce and he had been on the move far too much.

Wayne's thoughts returned to the present and he smiled at Lily "Yeah, it's truly a shame that more people don't hold books in a higher regard then they do....." he trailed off thinking again on how long it had been since he actually opened a book. However, his attention shifted to her next question before his thoughts could wander too much. He chuckled at her question and gave her a sort of mock-offended look, though he knew why she would ask such a question of him. "Of course I can fish, what do you think I was doing when we met?" he asked incredulously. "And there are many things I am capable of, I know how to shoe and mount a steed, I was trained in certain military disciplines, I'm quite a capable hunter, but only for food, never for sport, I like to play chess...." he trailed off, not wanting to accidentally mention something he could do that she might not like, such as his whole military background as a runaway knight or his blinking ability.

Lily smiled listening to him, “Well, that’s good. To be self reliant.” she said with a chuckle and resumed her swimming around him a few times then chuckled and dove under wondering if he would follow or just stay there wondering what to do next. She swam lower enjoying the water, she’d miss swimming, perhaps it was time she went back to the ocean. But not yet, she’d told Wayne she would stay with him for the time being. But she knew she could not linger for long. Yet she found herself being more and more drawn to him, it would make it harder for her when it came to parting ways.

As she watched a school of fish pass by, she wished she’d thought of brining her small fishing net with her. She had her own way of fishing, she did so with a net while she was swimming. Her mother had taught her to fish like that, though to them it had been a game. See who would catch more fish, whoever swam the fastest was more likely to fish the most. Though later on her mother had taught her to use her water element ability to bring the fish to her without even setting a foot in the water. It was a skill that she had learned, but not mastered… much like many of the skills her parents had taught her.

She smiled as she swam further down yet, seeing if Wayne would follow her that far down. It occurred to her then that perhaps he could not hold his breath under water for as long as she could, and certainly he did not control water and air the way she did. She in fact could stay underwater for quite a long while if she used her air magic ability, but she could not do so openly with Wayne around.

Wayne watched as she dove under the water, then after a few moments of him watching her swim further and further down, he sighed and took a deep breath, then slid beneath the surface of the water. He began swimming and making his way towards her, but he was simply to unskilled in terms of swimming to even have a chance with keeping up with her and she would soon pull ahead. However, his determination made for him to continue swimming until he had reached the point that she had, albeit at a much slower pace then her.

He was about 15 feet away from her when he began to feel the burning sensation in his lungs that was attributed to the oxygen in his lungs getting stale. He groaned inwardly at his seeming inability to keep up with Lily in the water. She even seemed to be able to hold her breath longer them him. However, he pressed on, until he finally managed to make next to her, his hand gently brushing against hers to get her attention. He floated next to her for a moment longer before swimming in front of her and gently kissing her on the lips. It was only a momentary kiss as his lungs really began to ache and he needed air, so he began to make his way to the surface.

Lily blinked surprised as Wayne kissed her then frowned with worry as she watched him hurry back towards the surface. He could not hold his breath for as long as she could. Quickly she swam to his side and once a again helped him to the surface though this time she did it much faster as she caused a water current to speed their way back up to the surface.

“Forgive me… I should’ve been more thoughtful.” She said apologetically. She really should have been more thoughtful, she did not think he would have followed her unless he could hold his breath long enough. Why would he risk himself then? It made no sense. In her hurry to get him to the surface she’d almost just gone ahead and create an air bubble around him so that he may breathe. But she’d sped them up instead. She looked at him worried. “Are you ok?”

As Wayne swam towards the surface, he glanced over and noticed that Lily had caught up with him and was keeping pace as they swam towards the surface. Had his lungs not been screaming for oxygen, he may have noticed how much easier it became to swim due to her causing a current to aid them. However, he focus was simply on getting to the surface as quickly as possible.

At the last possible second before they broke through the surface, Wayne took in some water, not a lot; but enough to cause him to choke and cough once he had reached the surface. He slowly made his way towards the shallows, continuing his coughing fit and unable to answer Lily's question of his well-being. Once his feet finally touched the solid ground of the lake bed, he continued making his way up until the water was down to his waist. At that point, he bent over and continued coughing up the water that he had actually taken in. After a few moments, the coughing lessened and he was able to respond in between the coughs. "Don't *cough* worry *cough* I'm *cough* fine....." he trailed off and shot her a weak smile, the coughed again.

Lily’s color drained from her face as she watched Wayne fighting through his coughing fit. He’d taken in water after all. She slowly followed behind him, though he gave him plenty of spaced and kept him out of arm’s reach from her. She should not have gone that far down, it was a mistake that she would never repeat again. He could have drowned! Why? Why would he have gone that far down to follow her if he could not hold his breath that long?! Clearly he saw that she was not in danger, she’d been smiling, he’d watched her swim away from him, there was no way that he could’ve mistaken the situation as her being in danger. None!

Her worry was so much that it caused her to want to kick him. How could he endanger his life so carelessly! She watched him incredulously as he actually told her not to worry, that he was fine… while coughing! Honestly, the nerve of him! “Alright.” She said darkly as she slowly walked past him and around the tree where she had left her clothes. She picked up her pants and put them back on, and with her back to him and thankfully with the tree between them so she’d have some small sense of privacy, she removed her wet chemise and put on her shirt then wringed the water from her chemise opting not to use her elemental magic any more and hung it on a low laying branch of the tree. She looked at her boots, and decided not to put them on yet, so she walked back from around the tree and looked at Wayne with an all too well practiced blank and unemotional expression. She would NOT give way in such a manner again. She would not endanger his life more than she already was.

Wayne remained bent over, his hands resting on his knees, his wet hair hanging loosely past his face as Lily walked past him. The coughing had subsided enough for him to detect something different in her voice, though he couldn't figure out what, at least not until he stopped coughing. After a couple more minutes, the fits finally subsided and he rose to stand at his full height again. However, as he looked up, he saw Lily staring at him, her expression unlike anything he had ever seen on her. Usually there had been a even the slightest hint of warmth, but there was nothing there now.

He hadn't meant to worry her, and he certainly hadn't meant to take in water. However when she had gone under, he hadn't figured that she would be or was even capable of going so deep. Clearly there was more to Lily then met the eye, unless she simply had an incredible lung capacity. At any rate, he certainly would have to careful in understanding that her capabilities, at least in the water, far exceeded his own.

He sighed and brushed his hair back with his hand so it went down his back. He began slowly walking towards her, wading through the water as it dropped in level. He gave her a sort of sheepish grin and stopped a few feet away from her., his feet still slightly submerged beneath the surface of the lake. His grin faded somewhat as he stared into her eyes, trying to decipher what was going on inside of her head. "You ok?" he asked, despite having a feeling what kind of answer she would give to such a question.

Lily watched as he made his way closer to her and smiled brightly, though it was an empty smile, but one she had practiced well. “Perfect” She said evenly. “It occurs to me that perhaps we should be having our lunch now.” She said though she wasn’t the slightest bit hungry at the time being. She could not let her guard down like that again, it would only end in disaster, his near drowning was proof of that.

It was better for the both of them in the end, if she remained as unemotional as possible. It would make it less painful when they finally had to part ways. And they would in the end, no use in pretending that wasn’t going to be the case. She cared a great deal about him, and she would do what she could to keep him safe. Even if that mean keeping him at arm’s length and keeping her emotional side bottled up. It would not do for her to start developing deeper feelings for Wayne, that was something that must be forever unavailable to her. Or at least for as long as she was being hunted down.

“So how long are you staying at the cabin?” She asked casually, wondering just how long he was going to be around, and how long he was expecting her to keep him company. She would spend a few days with him, she’d already agreed to that. But she would not linger more than absolutely necessary. If for nothing other than his wellbeing, she would continue on her way in a few days time.
