The Primera Espada

Wayne awoke to the sun shining through the windows of the cabin bedroom, a scene that belied that type of weather that had been occurring the previous evening. However, this kind of weather would be a welcome change. He lay in bed for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling before he turned his head to glance at the form of the woman that had spent the night in his bed with with. While he wanted nothing more then to reach over and gently caress her or hold her in a sweet embrace, he manged to resist; instead deciding that he preferred that she slept undisturbed. Not wanting to disturb her by getting out of bed, Wayne simply blinked out of bed, thus creating no noise or motion of any kind. He appeared at the entrance of the bedroom, and was about to walk out when he stopped, giving Lily's sleeping form one last lingering gaze before turning and leaving the bedroom. He stepped into the living room, and glanced at the smoldering embers of the fire that he had created the previous evening. He probably should have put it out, but he had gotten somewhat distracted. He shrugged, no harm no foul, then grabbed a bucket of water that sat next to the fire place and dumped its contents on the smoldering remains of the logs that had been burnt in the blaze. He then turned to the front door and opened it, stepping outside as the bright morning sun lit up everything and shone done, heating up the exposed skin of his upper torso. It felt good to him, and he stretched his arms out as far as they could go and let out a yawn. After a few moments of enjoying the outside, he turned and went back inside towards the kitchen, intent on making some food for both Lily and himself. |

Lily woke up suddenly and alert. She blinked looking around, a little disoriented. Then she remembered where she was, Wayne’s cabin, Wayne’s bed. That sounded so strange to her. She frowned looking around, something had woken her in alert, but what? A disturbance of sorts… in the air. But she was confused, how could there be any disturbance in without any movement and there had been no movement or she would’ve felt it and woken up. Silently she sat up listening, Wayne must be somewhere in the cabin, the bathroom… or the kitchen? When had he gotten up? She had not felt him at all, and that had never happened to her. As long as there was any movement that close to her, she should have felt it, air being her element she felt movement in a way no only other air mages did. Lily frowned puzzled as she got off the bed and stood there, still listening. She smelled no one other than Wayne, though she could not be sure. Air indoors always worked a bit different than air outdoors. There was no natural breeze indoors. She didn’t think anything was really amiss, but the fact that she had not sensed Wayne’s rising from bed had her feeling uneasy. Carefully she retrieved her sheath of daggers and buckled it securely on its usual place around her thigh. Not bothering to waste time getting some pants on she silently walked out of the bedroom and walked to the bathroom to listen. He was not there. Carefully she walked down the hallway and looked around the living room then she walked over to the door that led to the kitchen and stopped testing the air within and sighed quietly. He was in the kitchen, alone, he was fine. Of course he was fine… but why had she not felt his getting off the bed? Slowly she walked back to the bedroom and got dressed and bushed her hair then looked around the room. She decided to make the bed then walked to the bathroom to wash her face then with nothing else to do she walked back to the living room and sat down on the sofa contemplating what had made her wake up so suddenly, something had disturbed the air around her, not much, just ever so very slightly, in a way she had not felt before. She frowned again, lost in thought now. |

Wayne sighed, staring into the kitchen with a sort of dumbfounded look on his face. He was never a very good cook, hence why he preferred to eat at inns or pubs whenever the opportunity arose. However, his determination to make breakfast for both Lily and himself overrode his ineptness in the kitchen as he began cooking some bacon and eggs. At first, he burnt some of the food, but soon he began to get the hang of it and the smell of cooking meat filled the cabin and replaced the burnt smell that had previously lingered. Once the food had finished cooking, Wayne went to prepare the table and laid out the food when he noticed that Lily had awoken. He gave her a warm smile as he continued to prepare the table for their breakfast. "Good morning Lily......hope you slept well," he said mildly, unaware of her ordeal from the previous evening. "I hope you like eggs and bacon?" he asked, hoping that indeed she would. He then moved and reached into the larder and pulled out a container of milk. Most people preferred their milk warm, but strangely enough, Wayne preferred his cold. He looked over at Lily again with a smile. "What do you want to drink?" he asked curiously. |

Lily was pulled out of her reverie as she heard Wayne’s voice. She smiled politely, “I slept fine thank you. I hope you did the same.” She said studying him carefully. She had come to the conclusion that there was something about Wayne that was… odd, unusual, she just didn’t know what. But being that she had her own… odd side of sorts, she wasn’t going to press the matter right at the moment. She would simply pay more attention to his behavior and movements. She’d remembered how fast it had been for him to go to the market and back, and now he managed to leave the bed without her sensing it. There was something about him, but what? She rose from the sofa and joined him in the kitchen and sat town at the same place she had the night before. “Milk is fine, thank you.” she said watching him. “I thought you didn’t cook?” She asked with a small smile. Though she had noticed the obvious smell of burnt food in the air she had not paid it any attention for she’d been too distracted. She looked around the kitchen then back at Wayne and smiled, “You’re a quick learner it seems.” She said in a light tone. |

Wayne chuckled at her remark about at him not cooking and was about to comment on that when he felt that she had noticed the smell of burnt food in that air, thus making it unnecessary for him to remark on it. He then proceeded to pour her a glass of milk while smirking about her comment of him being a fast learner. "Yeah well, I guess I can get it right eventually...." he trailed off, giving her a playful wink. Once ready, he sat down at the table across from her and put some of the bacon and eggs on his plate before taking a giant swig of his milk. He then proceeded to eat, not saying anything and concentrating on the food in from if him for a moment. After a few bites, he glanced back up at Lily to see if she was enjoying he breakfast as much as he was. For this being his first real time cooking bacon and eggs, it actually didn't turn out half bad. He certainly could have done a lot worse then burning a few strips. "Did you hear that storm that was going on last night?" he asked offhandedly. "It seemed to blow in out of nowhere....." he trailed off again as he took another bite of his bacon, chewing it slowly and savoring the taste. |

Lily smiled as she listened to him talk about his cooking abilities and started eating as he did, though maybe not as quick. She was still a bit off this morning, she just couldn’t figure out what it was and it was bothering her. It made her feel a bit out of… control. As if she was out of her element. And that was a rare feeling for her. She was about to compliment his food when he beat her to it and asked about the storm the night before causing her to blush as she looked down and concentrated on her plate. “Uh… yeah.” she said quietly but not saying anything else as she busied herself with eating. Clearly she couldn’t be expected to talk with a full mouth. She wasn’t going to panic about it, he had not asked her anything too complicated. He wasn’t insinuating anything in particular. He’d just made a general comment about an obviously odd storm occurrence. That was normal, anyone would ask the same question. Thankfully he was across the table from here and there was enough distance between them so that she would not be so severely affected by him. Really, she must get accustomed to having him near. She could not afford to cause another storm. |

Wayne watched her curiously for a moment after she had answered his question. He felt it was somewhat of a restrained answer, but she was eating and there was no reason to push the issue, especially while they were eating. Still, he did feel like there was something off about Lily this morning and while he wasn't going to try and pry, he still wanted to at least have a better idea of what was going on. He resumed eating and after a few minutes, he had completely finished off his portion of breakfast along with downing the entire glass of milk. He leaned back in his chair and watched Lily eat for a moment before rising to his feet and proceeding to clean off some of the dishes that had been used in the creation of breakfast. After a few minutes he had pretty much finished, then glanced over at Lily, "So I was wondering if you'd be interested in going down to the lake with me today?" he asked nonchalantly. "I was thinking we could go fishing, maybe go for a swim, have a picnic or something....." he trailed off, hoping he didn't sound as lame as he thought he did. |

Lily looked at him for a moment, not saying anything, just looking at him. She forced herself to swallow the rest of her breakfast before chocking on it and drank the rest of her milk before she said anything. “Uh… sure, that sounds… great.” She said at a loss for words. She’d just never taken any… leisure time. At least not since her parents’ deaths. She’d gotten used to being on the move, always. What little leisure she’d given herself was staying in bed for a couple of hours longer than usual or staying in any given town for a day longer than she’d planned. And that hardly ever happened. She looked at him again, carefully this time. She wondered again if he was a mentalist… a mind reader of sorts. Hadn’t she’d just been thinking she had to get used to being around him? And now he was providing a solution to that. Lily chuckled suddenly as she picked up her breakfast dishes and went to wash them, now she was being paranoid. Clearly he was not a mentalist, he would not ask so many questions if that was so, or perhaps, he’d have far more questions than usual. |

Wayne stepped back away from the sink in order to allow Lily room to wash off the dishes that she had used during breakfast. He stood behind her for a moment, watching her; and as his gaze lingered, his thoughts returned to the previous night and the kiss that the two had shared. For some reason, he found himself unable to push the previous nights events from his mind. There was a great part of him that wanted nothing more then to take her into his arms and hold her in a passionate embrace. However, he was unsure if she would truly comfortable with that sort of affection at this juncture in their relationship. He then blinked and shook his head as he turned and made his way into the bedroom. He didn't even know what their relationship truly was and while it was clear that they were more then just friends, he really didn't know where they stood. He sighed as he entered the bedroom, his gaze lingering for a moment on the bed that they had shared the previous night. He secretly hoped that it wasn't simply a one time thing before pushing the thought out of his mind, he would just have to see tonight. He went into his closet and pulled out a black shirt with short sleeves, as well as a loose pair of pants that had been cut off around the knees, allowing a portion of his legs to be exposed. He quickly changed and made his way into the bathroom to brush his teeth and run a brush through his hair. He had been meaning to get it cut, since it was quite a pain having longer hair. He had just never gotten around to it. And while using a brush was somewhat emasculating, he didn't want it to look bad, especially if she was going to be around. He finally emerged a few moments later from the bathroom and made his way into the kitchen. He glanced at Lily with a smile and motioned towards the pantry, "Is there anything in particular you want me to bring for you to eat later?" he asked curiously. |

Lily smiled looking at him and shook her head, “Not really. Anything will do.” She said with a shrug. The Midday meal wasn’t usually a big one for her, or even big enough to be considered a meal, but then again, her particular… way of life never really allowed for her to have a proper midday meal. She was usually on the road at that time of the day, and more often than not settled for an apple, or an orange. “Fetch anything you like. If you’ll excuse me for a moment, I should be ready shortly.” She said politely then turned around and headed back into the bedroom. She reached for her daggers sheath and was about to secure them around her left thigh again when she stopped, thoughtful for a moment. If they were going to the lake… what could she wear? She looked down at the pants she was wearing and frowned. She wasn’t going to swim naked in the lake with Wayne around. She fumbled around in her travel pack mumbling the whole time about the inconveniences of being a woman. She sighed heavily and shut the door closed, she was going to have to undress and wear something else. Mumbling annoyed she took off her boots along with her clothes then got a black chemise from her travel pack and put it on and she looked down at herself thoughtfully. It came down halfway down to her knees, was that proper to swim with in front of a guy? She couldn’t remember ever seeing her parents swim so she didn’t know what her mother wore though they’d gone swimming more than enough times. She shrugged, she’d be underwater and he wouldn’t be able to see much for too long. Quickly she put her clothes back on. One didn’t usually wore a chemise with pants but it was either that or swim naked and that wasn’t happening. She put her boots back on and then grabbed her daggers sheath and secured it around her left thigh again. She sighed and walked back out of the bedroom and back to the living room and looked around thoughtfully. Eventually she was going to have to sit down and have a talk with Wayne, but not now. She walked into the kitchen to see what he was doing. “Ok, done.” She said lightly. |
