Sims 3 Ambition Tattoos; Tattoos for the Ambition EP

You need AMBITIONS! or the ***tattoo adding patch.

***I'm not sure these work with just the patch. I assume they may, but I cannot be sure.

I made about 98 or 99 tattoos for the new Ambitions EP, and presumably for the new game patch that added the tattoo element to base games. However, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the tattoo I used to create all of these were included in the patch, or even if it matters. I have no way of knowing, though, because I have the Ambitions expansion pack, and these work for me.

Most of the tattoos that came with the game kind of suck to me, so I made quite a bit more. Not all of these look as good as others, but they're recolorable. Tattoos on the shoulder looks horrible usually, but that's Maxis' fault. I hope someone can figure out a way to resize the tattoo-able area there.

Normally, I'd allow people to pick out what they don't want, and keep what they do want, however, I did most of these images in batch, so there was no descriptive way to label the majority of the tattoos, so they're just labeled tattoo001, etc. I'm sorry for that, but it really cut down on time for me to be able to batch save, and whatnot. Around 40 or so are labeled, though, so you could probably discern which are which.

Anyway, here they are:

Ignore the blurries in the last picture, but those are Maxis tattoos. All of these tattoos were made from freeware images, except for one. And for that one, I'm sorry but I forgot who made it. And, now, looking at these images I realize I pictured one row twice, and a tribal Maxis one is in there. Sorry about the photo flub.

Don't put these on the exchange, please.

***I've been told that sometimes that these tattoos "stick" and won't resize, layer, etc. I have no idea what the problem could be, to be honest. I haven't had a single problem so far other than an initial stick with one tattoo (when I had all the individual files instead of the one collective file) and that was resolved after I reloaded the game with the collective. Since then, they've been working smoothly for me. If you're having this problem, trying use the collective file, or deleting your cache. :D

Danke. I hope these work out. I haven't seen them, or even any of the Maxis ones in world, but I'm sure its like most of the other things...looks better in CAS than in-world, but I have hopes... :$

Right now I only have the patch and not Ambitions yet. I will try out a couple to see if it works, but if not, then I got to get my cheap butt out to the store and buy it. I am in love with these tattoos. Happy to see you creating for Sims 3 and thank you very much!

No problem. :D I hope they work for the patch, too. That would be sucky if they didn't. I plan to make more, but the tedium that was involved with those above have pushed me off wanting to make more for the moment.

Wow! These are fantastic! I don't have TS3 and I'm a little curious if you could make these available for the sims 2, as an overlay for people with seasons.... if not could I at least have the images for the pixie & mermaid ones or links to them. Thanks!

amazing work, I absolutely love them. but for some reason with these installed in the bulk package, they wont allow my tattooss to be layered or resized. someone else solved the problem by clearing their caches, which I did, but the problem remained. am i missing something or is there something else I should try? perhaps they are conflicting with a download I have that others do not? does anyone else have this problem besides me?

EDIT: I'm doing a little digging through my mods folder and these are definitely NOT the problem. THESE WORK PERFECTLY. Amazing job, once again

EDIT2: crazily enough, it was working fine the first time I removed all of the cc from my mods folder and told the launcher to run without cc, but the second time and from now on it seems the problem is there when the tattoos are the only cc in the game.

You say you can't resize or layer them? I had that problem with one of them the first time I installed them, but only the one. When I exited the game, and re-entered I played with them all again and they were fine, and this was with all individual files I think. I have no idea what would be causing the problem, to be honest. Are you having this problem with all of them, only particular ones, or does it differ each time?

Is anyone else having this problem?

I don't know if I can do them for TS2 with the sunburn overlays, but I can provide you the link.

I think they're in there somewhere, but I can't remember exactly where. However, if they're not let me know then I'll look for the right link.

Hey great work! Haven't tried them yet, but I was wondering how you made them? Was it in-game or through a separate tool?

Thanks

I made them using TSR Workshop. I kind of just looked at a Maxis tattoo, and figured out how the image file was constructed and then did my own.

Huh, I downloaded TSR Workshop, but I have no idea how to make one - I've never used it before. It also keeps giving me this error: Error when rendering diffuse complate: Complate not found. Then it says Object reference not set to instance of object..

Never got that error, and I don't have a clue as to what it means. However, I can try to explain the process I used in making the tattoos.

Step 1: Open up TSR Workshop. :)
Step 2: On the Menu (File, Edit, Tools, etc.) click on the Edit Menu > Preferences. A box will pop up.
Step 3: Where it says, Game and EP Settings, I used the High-End Loft Stuff line to > browse > C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions (or whatever your equivalent folder is).
Step 4: Click apply.
Step 5: Create New Project > Clothing
Step 6: Go to Young Adult > Male > Naked
Step 7: Click on one of the Maxis tattoo images, e.g. uuTattooCelticKnot, and click Next
Step 8: In the "Unique Identifier" box, you MUST name this something unique. I'd suggest putting in your username/name/personal whatever to make it unique so no one else will use it. This is what lets the game know this file is different from the other tattoos. Name your project, and title. I just used the same ones as my unique identifier. If you do multiple tattoo files, each unique identifier needs to be different. After you fill those in, push OK.
Step 9: Click the "Texture" tab next to the "project" tab.
Step 10: Click the small "+" next to the word "Core"
Step 11: Click on the "Layer1Mask" > Edit. A window will pop and it will look like nothing is there.
Step 12: Export the file.
Step 13: You need the DDS plugins for photoshop, psp, or whatever graphics program you use. You can go to modthesims and find tutorials that give the link for these.

Step 14: Open up the .dds image file in your image editing software. I use photoshop cs, so I only know this way.
Step 15: Delete the Maxis tattoo, so the image is just a blank black background. In your Layers box, click on "Channels"
Step 16: You should see 4 layers labeled, "RGB" "Red" "Green" "Blue".
Step 17: I converted images to brushes for this, but I can't really explain how to do that, so hopefully you know already. Make sure your brush color is pure red, (255, 0, 0) or (ff0000). Using red, draw on the RGB layer. As you draw on that layer, you should be able to a replica of the red image on the "Red" layer showing up in white. This is good.
Step 18: You can add more color channels by using pure green (0, 255, 0) or (00ff00) and by using pure blue (0, 0, 255) or (0000ff).
Step 19: Once you are done creating the tattoo's image with the color(s), at the bottom of the layers box in PS CS, there is a little icon that says, "Create New Channel"...click that...and a channel named "Alpha 1" should be created. It should be all black.
Step 20: Save your image as a .dds image. I use DXT5 "interloped alpha" or whatever it says. I honestly don't know if this makes a difference.
Step 21: Go back to the TSR Workshop and your project > Layer1Mask > Edit > Import and find and import your tattoo image. When it's imported, it should show up transparent in the window like the original (that you exported) did.
Step 22: Either replace all three of the files in the drop down menu below the "Texture" tab or, just delete the other two (that you have not already imported the new image into) with the red X.
Step 23: Save. I saved as .package files. To do this, go to Edit > Project Contents > Export > To .package
Step 24: Put the package file where you put your other .package files and see if it showed up.

I'm sorry if you don't understand the directions, or if you don't have Photoshop. If you get lost somewhere, I can take an image of the step to help.

Cool, thanks a lot! I fixed the error, I had to tell TSR where the base game, HELS, and Ambitions were... anyways, I should be able to figure it out, my mom has Adobe CS4 so I should be able to use that to do it.

I reinstalled the batch package containing all of the tattoos in one and just tested them out once again in the game for both men and women, and the problem is totally gone. I have no idea what was causing the issue before, but now they work just fine. I'm sure it was just some mistake I was making.
