How does the Clear card work?

Your Clear card is a fast pass through security lanes at the airport. The card stores your name, fingerprints, iris images, and photograph so that Clear attendants can verify your identification and allow you to use the Clear lane. All of the information on the card is encrypted. If you forget to bring your card to the airport, you will not be able to use the Clear lane and must enter the regular security lines.

Do I have to give permission for Iris Image Research?

Granting the TSA permission to use your iris images for research is strictly voluntary and will not impact your application in any way. Iris images may be shared with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for purposes of research to develop government standards for the use of iris images. Iris images will be shared with NIST only after TSA enters into a Memorandum of Understanding to minimize privacy impacts and secure the data. Participation is strictly voluntary.

Please note, you will still be asked to submit iris images during enrollment at the Clear enrollment station; however, if you choose not to grant permission for research, your images will not be shared with the NIST.

NIST strikes again. NIST is collecting data for iris scans?????? And this was the same outfit that investigated 9/11?????

NIST and TSA are working partners. That and the fact that NIST also worked on SUPER ALLOYS at the time of an investigation into STEEL properties, raises no red flags for NOBODY???

And after NIST's super alloy research....Iris scans?

What is the Independent Privacy Ombudsman?

Reviewing the details of member privacy complaints objectively, impartially, and in a timely manner is important to us. Therefore, we have appointed an independent, outside Privacy Ombudsman.

Law Professor Paul Schwartz, noted privacy expert and advocate, is empowered to investigate all privacy complaints, gather the facts, and respond to members, as well as to post responses publicly and prominently on our website. He will also provide Clear's management with recommendations for resolving disputes in keeping with our Privacy promises.

If you have a complaint about our privacy practices, please contact Professor Paul Schwartz. You can email Professor Paul Schwartz or write him at:

Ombudsman
Clear
PO Box 421639
Palm Coast, FL 32142-1639

Schwartz is on the scene, lol.

You can read the rest of the facts at their fact page. This isn't 'progression' IMO. This is just a new form of control. The question isn't "do we need this anymore". Now it becomes, "how do I become an accepted member of society free to travel?".

Isn't it weird about the connection to NIST?

I just stumbled on that going through the FAQ page.

NIST + Eye Scans + Airport Security+ TSA = WTF?
