I have added a news ticker at the top of the page.
It appears to have problems in IE7 as it is intended to scroll across the entire screen and have a fully black background. :-/

I am just curious to the input from members here as to whether we should keep it, trash it, or search for a better option.

or search for a better option.
I see that the 'news' here is more of the same shallow rot you get from things like Yahoo News. Considering this is a 911 forum, maybe the feed from 911Blogger is an option we should explore, if having a news feed is a good idea in the first place

I agree with you somewhat Jo, but the way in which Zetaboards is designed the best option is javascript, and not RSS.

This was also the first javascript feed I have come across, and definately not the last. ;)

I don't mind it, though I would like to see it sped up just a bit. Not too much, but it is a little slow at the moment. Lin Kuei's suggestion of feeds is a good one.

I am looking at rss to javascript conversion codes now.
And I have found the infowars feed if that is any consolation.

It's slow, and (emabarassed to say) I signed on three times before I even noticed it.

I made it a little faster... If I make it go any faster the flicker is unbearable here. :-/

Replaced the feed with the feed from infowars, for now.

If you have problems viewing it, click on the portal, then return to the forums via the logo or active topics.

hmm, interesting addition. it's not bad, i wish it would be more diverse in its amount of "news". as it is, it's repetetive. i approve, though, of the addition overall.

Thanks RadicalMom, it is still a work in progress though. ;)

If you would like to see some more of what I am doing you may check out my testboard here.

Of course keep in mind that is a test board and may be broken at any given moment in time. :D

You can't "convert" RSS to JavaScript, since the former is not a scripting language. What you can do, however, is read RSS feeds with JavaScript. There's even an online code generator for this:

Yeah, I found that out.

The script at the top of the page uses Javascript, ajax, and php.

Your link does not make a "scrolly" which is what I was/am looking for.

:D You mean ambition/interest ?

Zetaboards does have the code for a more integrated solution for a chat box, however it is not implimented yet.

When it becomes implimented it will see much more use as it can be appended to the bottom, top, or perhaps even a floating box on every page, using the existing skin.

Unfortunately Zetaboards is a "one man show" as far as the coding goes, and his name is Brandon. He prefers it that way, and I can't say I blame him.

Right now he has his hands full as a bunch of forums have recently converted from Invisionfree to Zetaboards and there were many errors during that conversion process so he is currently overrun with support tickets.

He does have one staff member in particular who has contributed greatly as far as modifications, and my understanding of those modifications goes, and her name is Nicola.

There are also several college students who have taken it upon themselves to produce add-ons and modifications to the Zetaboards software, the most ingeniuous of which call themselves Slayer766, Fission, Viral, and choco.... Well maybe not choco, it was his code which broke the youtubes on IE7 here a week or so ago. :P

Without these people's patience and persistance none of what you see would have been accomplished here.

- Just giving credit where credit is due. ;)

definitely a good idea. I would go as far as to suggest a second ticker so we get double the fun on it. Maybe it could be a ticker that shows prices like on your signature.

I noticed the Ticker yesterday. I like the idea, but it doesn't move with the "frame". I think the HTML command to give it a 'fixed' position with the header would be better? And the font larger too?

I have added the 911 Blogger RSS feed to the portal under the Loose Change Trilogy.

It does not scroll, but it does auto update.

Latest updates are complete....

Someone was asking about being able to delete PM's. Now you can, but you have to archive them first.

I'd just like to say, for me, the News Ticker enhancement is a positive addition
to the Loose Change Forum.

I applaud your work JFK.

Yours is a difficult job.
