Gun Licensing in England If requiring gun owners to obtain a government license seems like a harmless idea to you, you may want to know about "Firearms Form 101." That's the "Application for a Firearms Certificate" that must be filled out by Britons in order to purchase a rifle or muzzle loading handgun. http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do?displayContent=177117&page=3 |

Haha that video is so full of holes it's a joke. The stance it takes is so different from the facts on the ground. It looks at the issue from the same way Americans look at the gun issue, the 'god given right to own a gun' stance. Everyone in the video is a so called sportsman. None of them wanted guns to defend themselves or their property, the excuse American pro-gun heads always give. The march it showed footage of at the start was in protest of the possibility of legislation being brought in to deal with traditional hunting with hounds, not out and out 'gun laws'. I grew up in the countryside surrounded by hunts with hounds, and I don't have a problem with it in general. The fact is though that it is an inefficient and cruel form of pest control. And it's just an excuse for chavvy farm workers to wear a suit, blow a horn and pretend they're rich landowners for an afternoon. I'm not sure when that video was made but there have been slightly more than 'two tragic shootings' in Britain. Also the video jumps between British and Australian people as though they're talking about the same thing. I actually laughed out loud when a man claimed that a clampdown on unlicensed handguns was akin to the persecution of the Jews in Nazi Germany. Yeah cos their religious heritage could be used to kill people if it got into the wrong hands... The form needlessly referenced in the blurb isn't mentioned in the film... but you can see it here: http://www.sussex.police.uk/online_forms/downloads/frm101.pdf |

I look at the issue of criminalizing law abiding citizen's gun ownership rights. In other words, the laws became a game changer for law abiding citizens.

The persecution began with the infringement on gun rights. That's how it always starts. Sad you would laugh about something so serious... |

I am 40 years old and have lived in England all my life. I recently met someone who is knowledgeable about firearms and he showed me some of his guns and explained what they were and some of the technical details. It was the first time in my life that I ever touched an actual gun. This is not unusual because so few british people have guns it isn't usually an issue. I was thinking about getting an air gun just to shoot cans for target practice, because that is the only type of gun that I can own without a license. I heard about the procedure for getting a firearms license in the UK from my new friend. Not only would I have to join a registered gun club and store the gun there, I would first have to be vetted by a senior policeman, and give suitable reasons for wanting a license in the first place. Apparently it is extremely difficult, and can take years to obtain such a license. Since I have been enquiring, I found lots of people who have air rifles. You can have an air rifle if it is less than a certain power, but the laws are quite extreme about transporting them. And it is really hard to find any shooting ranges as they are not advertised in the usual phone book. |
