Scientific principles and results are not limited to what people believe to be "common sense".

Common sense is subjective, science is not.

Oh then can you point out the scientifc report that documented the plane's interaction with the light poles?

No I didn't.

Perhaps you should realize that since there were no scientific reports on the matter all we are left with is 'common sense'. Then you should ask yourself why there was no scientific report or documentation of the matter to being with.
