Now the video says 16,000+ views, thats either because youtube didnt wanna look bad or because so many people saw it in the young guys video and decided to watch the video itself. Either way, his video was excellent, get it up on digg! |

i give the kid props for taking an intellectual and critical view of the world around him, but he's incorrect about youtube in this particular instance. with regard to the viewcount, when a video is watched ALOT or OFTEN in a short span, the view count locks in and doesnt change for a few hours. so next time you/he checks that video, as long as a few hours have passed by, you will see the viewcount has increased drastically/substantially. for instance i have a video on yt that has had over 4 and half million views (non911 related), and for about the first 3 weeks it was first up, its viewcount would lock and then jump by tens of thousands every 6-8 hours or so. chances are its the same with the ron paul video in question, though maybe not by the same numbers. its a matter of the abundance of people checking out a vid in a very short span, that causes the view count to lock at some point. i dont know what the exact criteria is (software/programming wise) but i guess it would bog down the server(?) if it had to constantly update the view count when so many people are watching it simultaenously and/or often. you guys have already pointed out that the who's watching video is controlled by the active-sharing option, so that explains that discrepancy. here check out that vid and its counts now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PXkjv96HVg note that the vid was uploaded sometime on June 8th, while the kid's vid about censorship was made sometime on June 9th. not enough time had transpired to allow for youtube's system to catch up and the kid misinterpreted the tallies. with regard to commments, again, it seems like when the kid made his video about the nuffrespect video, only hours had transpired, so maybe not that many comments had been posted about it yet. currently the vid has 478 comments and its been close to 40 days, which averages out to 12 comments a day. so 28 comments sounds about right - given that nuffrespect's video was up less than 24 hours. anyhow, im not ragging on the kid, he reminds me of a younger me, although when i was his age there was no youtube, only the library, the nightly news and political talkshows on network tv (we didnt have cable), and print media was all there was to build your knowledge base on. when i was growing up, we only had one tv, and my dad was the decider of what we would watch. he was very politically preoccupied, so i grew up on 60minutes, the maclaughlin group, agronsky and company, nightline, this week with david brinkley, meet the press, etc., and of course all 3 nightly network newses (fox didnt have national news yet). now that im a dad myself, i honestly struggle with wether or not i want my kid to be happy go lucky and somewhat unaware of the murkiness beneath the surface, or if i want him to be like the kid in the video, overly concerned with very complicated things. if i had a chance to be a teen again, i would chose the latter, to be less preoccupied with a corrupt world on a grand scale, and be more concerned with having some good old teenage fun. its great to see a kid (like the one in the vid) asking questions, but at that young age its easy to be too impressed by certain people, and fall victim to counter-propaganda. the kid's over-suspiciousness to me is an indication that he is already going overboard and perhaps might even be listening to too much alex jones without being old enough to see a bigger picture. all im saying is that an overload of information (thanks to today's technologies) can be unhealthy and lead to excessive paranoia and/or distorted perception, wether its AJ or someone else. regarding youtube and censorship, i havent really seen much of it. i have seen unjustified flagging of contents, but the users do that. to date, the only channels i have heard of being shut down, have to do with islam and religion. i dont know all the details, so i cant say if those claiming their channels were shut down due to religious content (islamic in particular) were lying or being truthful. i have also read about noplaners complaining about channels being shut down, but again i dont know all the details. so i do know i have read and seen vids with such complaints though i havent really researched their claims for veracity. but aside from those examples, i can say with good certainty that youtube does not censor via manipulating view counts or trying to minimize videos as portrayed by the kid in the OP video. |

A Higher Evolution

YouTube is having a tough time at the moment. Not only do they have to comply with the likes of Viacom marking huge lists of videos for removal, they are also dealing with exactly the same thing from $cientology. Many people have noticed that the view-counter on an anti-$cientology video is frozen. The scenario of more ratings and comments than actual views is quite common at the moment. Mark Bunker is a prominent anti-$cientologist, and his whole channel was taken down without any warning whatsoever. His username was cancelled and all videos just vanished. After he got online via another user's account, and pointed out that NONE of his videos contained any copyright material (not even fair use quotes), and a flood of complaints from his supporters (I'm anti-$cn, but not a Bunker fan), everything reappeared as though nothing had happened. He also pointed out that videos that had previously had 100s of views now suddenly only had 30 or 40. From my perspective, the admins are trying to "look like" they're conforming to the threats, but still letting the videos through to the viewers even if the count doesn't show it. While YouTube is hosted in the most litigious country in the world, this sort of shit is going to keep happening. |
