I want to tell you about Dr. Lyle Malotky, chief scientist of the TSA Office of Security Technology and the FAA. He also invented Thermite.

When the 9/11 commission needed comments on airline security, who did they call? Dr. Malotky

When the media needed answers about the Lockerbie airline disaster, who do they call? Dr. Malotky
(even though the UN observer to the trial of Libyan-linked electronics company called the trial an "intelligence operation" determined to frame Libya so the US could extort $2.5 billion in a lawsuit, which Libya only paid to stop the sanctions and harassment imposed on them as a result of the accusation)

This is an article from 1996...

Holiday travelers face tougher measures, and more in future
November 22, 1996
By Randolph E. Schmid
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON - As Americans take to the skies this holiday season, they won't breeze through airports as easily as in the past. Yet, the passenger ID checks, parking restrictions and luggage screening are just the start: Possible measures ahead include X-ray strip searches and small chambers that ``sniff'' travelers for explosives.``Security has to address the perceived threat,'' said Lyle O. Malotky, a Federal Aviation Administration security specialist.

That means officials must weigh both the threat of terrorism and the inconvenience to passengers when deciding which of the possible future measures should become reality.

Now for the kicker: Who invented Thermite?

Maybe I'm wrong but according to my 15 seconds of research (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermite):

Quote:

Thermite (Thermit) was invented in 1893 and patented in 1895 by German chemist Hans Goldschmidt.

I think he's talking about a variation of thermite, not the first composition of it ever.

ken, you might want to clarify that.

it is, afterall, a strange coincidence that this guy is an expert with thermite and has the history he does.
