funny.
the sad truth is,
Diebold (DEE-bold - not die-bold! ha!) was and still is the largest manufacturer, seller and maintainer (?) of (non-traceable) voting/ election tabulating machines,
Their CEO, Walden O'Dell contributed heavily and actively solicited funds to the 2004 Bush campaign.
He publicly stated he was committed to getting Bush the win in presidential election of '04.
Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who was conveniently both a Republican campaign official and an official with the State of Ohio, who had authority, opportunity and motive to influence election outcome - was in charge of selecting which company got the contract for Ohio's voting machines- Diebold got the ok (& contract). He also made the decision on NOT investigating anomalies and obvious discrepancies in Ohio's '04 vote totals.
Lest we take solace in O'Dell having retired from fixing elections & Diebold in particular in Dec. '05, take note: California's Sec. of State (appointed by a Republican gov), Bruce McPherson has certified Diebold as the sole provider of election machinery - even after said machinery was proven completely "hackable", sieve-like and whatever the opposite is of tamper-proof. Calif being the key to Democrats winning the White House, we may be in for Election Fix, part III.

Not all the evil is on Diebold's doorstep. Sequoia, a co. that provided election machinery for FL in '04 - in which over 100,000 voting mistakes were acknowledged in one county alone - is owned by a business partner of Carlyle Group, the defense contractor giant that hosted both bin Laden's brother and George HW Bush at a board meeting breakfast in Washington DC the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

You can't make up stuff this outrageous.

"This country is based on the fantasy that the government is the voice of the people."

"We will be pretending to count votes, and we'll be running an ongoing total throughout the night."

Did this seriously go to air, or is it a piss-take?
As an Australian, I'm confused. Is this "entertainment" or "real" news?

It's made by The Onion, long running news parody website.

They recently started parodying TV news, and do it perfectly!

to those unfamiliar,
this is The Onion - free speech & a few laughs in a country sorely lacking both:
