Don't side simply because the guy was a truth-activist. You'll find the truth much easier to find if you are neutral and probe both sides. For now, it's PURELY word on word. When footage comes, then you can side. Until then, there is absolutely no evidence to side with either side. I do agree the media is using this as a way to discredit truth-activism.
