Agreed.

John Ogonowski would far more have preferred to be at his home and farm, with family, and Cambodian pumpkin farmer neighbors.
Anyone who has studied his profile would agree.

It is highly unlikely that John would step in merely to sub for Sorenson for a purely domestic shuttle flight of Boston--LA AA11, and fly back as AA12, the usual "pendulum" flights.

Some other very compelling call came for John Ogonowski. He felt obliged to rise to the call of duty and accept. Somehow i dont think the call was from his boss Arpey at American. I think it was from a military command - something that a proud patriotic Vietnam vet would not say "no" too -- a commanding officer, someone of rank.

Duty called, and John Ognowksi answered it. And left his wife a widow.
