Okay, I didn't dig up my computer yet, but here is more food for thought: The night before Ogonowski's last flight, he dropped by the Cambodian farmers' plots to talk with them. He told them he was sorry to have to miss their fall harvest festival on Sept. 11, when he was scheduled to captain a Los Angeles-bound flight out of Boston's Logan Airport. http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/1009/p11s02-lihc.htm COLE: John Ogonowski didn’t want to fly on September 11th. That was the day people were coming to tour the dozen acres of Asian crops flourishing amid the hay and pumpkins at White Gate Farm. Ogonowski and his wife, Peggy, had hosted such events before, and he told project director Hugh Joseph he would do his best to be around for this one. JOSEPH: Finally, I got a call the night before from Peggy saying, ‘Listen, John’s not back yet, but he got the final word that he has to fly tomorrow. He can’t switch.’ http://www.loe.org/shows/shows.htm?programID=02-P13-00037#feature2 Hugh Joseph worked together with Ogonowski and wanted to visit him on Sept 11. These three sources - Joseph, Sorenson, and the Cambodian farmers - give an interesting picture of what happened. Obviously Ogonowski was told to fly on Sept 11 only one day before, but not because no other pilot was available. Sorenson was ready to fly. |
