im persian (iranian) and was born muslim, though im not a practicing one. i took offense to your negative generalizations (above). so im curious, do any of these people of other races, some of whom might be muslims, do they know how uninformedly and biasedly you speak against other muslims? you say "you have no problem" with us in this thread, yet you dog us elsewhere. it seems to me that you seek to vilify muslims (other thread), and exonerate israelis (this thread). either this a random coincedence, or you are guilty of being prejudice. what is your defense? the following is a pre-emptive rebuttal to any attempt you might make to justify or minimize the bias in ur statements: -i owned a dog for 10 years til he died, upon which i barried him with my own hands, even kissing his dead forehead goodbye as i lay him in his grave. my parents (devout - fully practicing muslims) cohabitated with and loved that dog, he was a part of our family. what say you about this? statistical anomally? or uninformed generalization on your part? do i need to show you proof of other muslims with dogs before u concede that you were broadly brushing a negative picture of muslims? check this series out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZvbIRLv02w&feature=related mind you while it is saying that (some) iranians find dogs to be dirty and are against cohabitation with them, there are still plenty of iranian (muslim) dog owners in the video. so to be specific, its not that muslims HATE or dont like dogs. if u check u will see a substantial portion of iran's population are farmers. many of these farmer own livestock AND as a result, DOGS to control the livestock, and they have for centuries. so muslims (not just in iran) have had a close mutual relationship with dogs for as long as anyone else in the world. the issue about dog's in iran as depicted in the video is about cohabitation: the act of living with a dog in and around your home, especially in the cities, where space is at a premium, and alot of people (like in tehran) live in apartment buildings. so thats the issue leading to a very specific controversy, not an all-out muslim hatred for dogs. of course thats just one example of it, but as far as i know there are plenty of muslims dog owners both here in the USA as well as abroad in muslim countries. if u could get past your prejudiced generalizations, then you would see the big picture and then u would be in a position to truly call a spade a spade. you act like you know and are informed, yet you show you havent taken the time to investigate all angles to see whats really going on. -are you going to post links to the passenger refusals and cabbies in minnessota? ever think that ALL cabbies hate dogs in their cabs? do you want to get into a cab in your nice clothes, only to have them stink cuz some dog was sitting there before you? -ever think that cabbies hates drunks in their cabs? or better yet, do u ever see the big picture about anything? could there be other reasons for "muslim cabbies" making "negative" news in minnessota? or "bad" muslims in general making it on the news? are you ignorant of the existing vested interest there is in portraying muslims in an ugly fashion in a post911 world? -do u live in london? have u spoken with holocaust-denying muslims? even if you have, how are you sure that many of them (muslims) have that same belief? -"suppose they only want to learn about the palestinians, the bosnians, and the crusades" - of course you suppose and project your negativity on muslims. with reckless abandon, thats what you do. -turks vs armenians - again, focus on only negative things muslims and/or islam are accused of doing (ignoring the political mis-uses of religion as a guise to achieve economic or political gains), but never looking in the direction of the crimes committed against humanity by ALL religions. thus you still stand accused of racial prejudice. how do you plea? *** sorry for the not-directly-topic-related post. first, the muslim thread got closed before i could express my feelings on the issue. secondly, arbor's conduct was brought up in this thread, and seeing how is the driving force of opposing belief with regard to the original topic, and how that topic has indeed become an issue of objectivity vs bias, then i felt im not in violation of officially being "off-topic". if a mod sees differently, then i apologize and will edit my post and take whatever advice/direction that is suggested. |
