A week ago, Palin was a virtual unknown. Since then, she's given a prime-time speech at the RNC. And there's been a smattering of stories about her kids, spouse and self. How can 42% hold an unfavorable view? Unless they're simply going by the (R) next to her name? |

Greg, I can only think it's that. If true, then that leaves a 58% potential to be grabbed. |

Actually, realclearpolitics shows that USA Today/Gallup poll at 54%McCain to 44% Obama! Here's the latest report from Rasmussen, daily tracking results from interviews conducted post-convention show dead tie. Note that Palin has a favorable rating of 58%. Note also that Obama is still ahead in electoral votes, but the gap has narrowed to the 10-20 range (it was at about 65 or so): http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll Edited by Jezebelle, Sep 8 2008, 04:02 AM.

Depending on whose analysis used, Obama did have a 45 - 70 electoral college lead on McCain. That has narrowed to 10 in Rasmussen's latest evaluation. This is interesting, and note that it's from 8/22, before the Repub convention: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/election_2008_electoral_college_update The analysis shows three states, VA, NV & CO, as pure toss-ups as of 8/22, but see Hugh's blog in the post above regarding CO. McCain is slowly moving toward the lead. The biggest question is will he have the ground game in place to get his vote out? Obama will use his Chicago Daley-type machine to get out his vote, and McCain doesn't or didn't have the army of volunteers that Obama has been building for 19 months. When all is said and done, it's how well the candidate gets his vote out that matters. McCain's got a lot of catching up to do. I'm sure that any LSers residing in battleground states would be a welcome addition to the volunteer operations. Edited by Jezebelle, Sep 8 2008, 04:00 AM.
