Cake is delicious - thank you kbp as you have outdone yourself! Thank you one and all for the greetings. It was a very happy day but I was oh, so tired.......Mr.cks, my son, and I had traveled to Louisville (about 90 minutes away) to have dinner at one of my favorite restaurants on Sunday evening (Mondays are generally days off for restaurants). This restaurant Le Relais, is really old school in terms of service and food. Additionally the restaurant itself is a gem - part of the old Bowman Field Airport, it is like stepping back to the 1920's in terms of décor. On Sundays a jazz duo or trio performs as well. Anyway, even though the weather was a little dicey, we made the trip down, had a delicious dinner, and then started home - our goal was to get in by nine so that all would be able to get a good sleep. But that was not to be. My son had graciously agreed to chauffeur us in his brand new (less than two weeks old) automobile. As we were driving home, a truck hit something (we think it was a large chunk of asphalt) and threw it across the lane, hitting my son's car with such force that it blew out the back tire, tore off the bumper and crushed the side panel. I do not know how my son was able to keep control of the car and maneuver it over to the icy side of the road. We were at the most dangerous part of a long curve with trucks and cars whizzing by us (not a single person stopped). I really thought that I would not see 64! Anyway, thank heavens for Triple A premier membership (commercial here on the value of AAA). They responded immediately to our call - located where we were (none of us were about to get out of the car as it was too slick and dangerous - plus it was pitch black and other than my son's cellphone we did not have a flashlight (note to self - for his birthday in March I am getting him an emergency kit for his car) so doing much investigating was not in the cards. Due to the weather conditions - and the fact we were very rural Kentucky - it took them two hours to arrive (and we were a priority as we were not considered to be in a safe place). The car was hoisted on the flatbed truck, we three crammed into the cab of the tow truck meant for one person plus the driver. We had him take us to an interstate stop that had easy on-off access (he was taking my son's car to the dealership well up the road) and where there was a hospital where we could wait in warmth - and where there was a bathroom - until our Uber ride arrived (within seconds of calling) and dropped us off at our respective dwellings. We did not make it home until almost 1 am on Monday - so it was a long day yesterday - I was sound asleep before the end of the first quarter of the Bama-Tiger game. However, all were safe (the best news) and his car will be repaired......as my son said, sooner or later something would happen - every car gets dinged (his words) he just did not expect it would get dinged so badly and quite so soon! Thank you again for all the wonderful greetings........by the way, our conversation as we waited for the tow truck was on what the reaction will be to the 30 for 30 program on the Hoax. |
