ESPN Films documentary on O.J. debuts Jan. 22 at Sundance before June airing on ESPN

(snip)

ESPN Films also announced upcoming “30 for 30” documentaries on the 1985 Chicago Bears and the 2006 Duke lacrosse scandal. “The ‘85 Bears” airs on ESPN on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 9 p.m. ET. “Fantastic Lies,” the title of the Duke lacrosse scandal film, airs on ESPN on Sunday, March 13, at 9 p.m. ET.

The film on the Bears airs on the 30th anniversary of their Super XX victory and deals with the birth of the 46 defense by Buddy Ryan, Rex’s father.

“Fantastic Lies” premieres on the 10th anniversary of the party that ESPN noted in a release “ignited what became a national firestorm and resulted in a highly-charged legal investigation. Usually confined to the sports section, lacrosse suddenly appeared on the front pages of newspapers because of the lurid details of the case and the hot buttons that it pushed: sex, race, class, violence.”

[This documentary is by Marina Zenovich, who also did a couple of documentaries about Roman Polanski. It has no connection with
another documentary of the same name, from 2012, which also dealt with the lax case, and which is now unavailable. An updated and revised
version of THAT documentary from 2012 maybe seen on Vimeo, under the title, "An Inconvenient Innocence". (For some reason the video quality isn't
very good.) But "Fantastic Lies" happens to be a title eminently suitable for the material, imho...]

ugh.

I wonder who's directing that...that will determine how much of a bloodbath it is

maybe Jesse Jackson needs to set his DVR.

more uncreative rehash. How about something original?

lol what do you think a documentary is

I wish people gave a sh&t about cases in which people who didn't do it actually you know...

the only time I pulled for some kids from Dook.

lame. Nobody cares about LaCrosse or rape.

Oh, for God's sake.

How many ESPN personalities need to apologize based on things they said before the truth came out? I can think of 4, minimum.

anything from ESPN and writers who wrongfully accused? Doubt it

I remember this as a big story... But really? ESPN is aware it's not Duke basketball, right?

Sometimes ESPN’s 30 for 30 has delved into lesser known stories in sports (often to fantastic and captivating results) but all three of these headlining films will likely be very familiar to both sports and non-sports fans alike. It’s also interesting that at least as far as Duke lacrosse and O.J. Simpson goes, it’s some of the most controversial content that 30 for 30 has explored. You can wager that the Duke lacrosse documentary will receive a great amount of scrutiny given how polarizing the case was.

"The hard-hitting 'Fantastic Lies' goes far beyond the playing field with an examination of how multiple factors led to a miscarriage of justice," ESPN Films Vice President and Executive Producer John Dahl said in a press release.

I hope so...

And I hope that this can really be the "definitive" account, which will get the facts across to a new generation (10 years qualifies
as a "generation" in these times) and establish the truth indelibly (as visual media can do).

And if it accomplishes that, I may send a free copy to William D. Cohan....

And maybe also to the Duke library, the Duke Law school, Durham's public library, Richard Brodhead,
and the Duke Trustees... (and it's never too late for them to have an attack of conscience and come clean...)

how many of you remember this bullshit case? i remember my sociology professor going nuts about it then it coming out that the bitch lied about the gang rape lol.

Man i hate duke

ha, mnaybe that will convince the lsu admins to fire aleva already

1.) I did not expect to see lacrosse on /sp/ so thanks for that
2.) I am the head coach of a college lacrosse team and, when this happened I was in college playing lacrosse. I was worried because people started joking around calling me and other laxers rapists and we were kind of concerned that the big break into the mainstream for our sport was represented as us being a bunch of white rich assholes who go around raping people.
Thank f*cking god it came out that it was all bullshit, I might've never lived it down.

There's a lot of pressure put on universities by title 9

E$PN ran this story into the ground attacking the accused and defending the "victim" when it first broke, then completely dropped it when it came out it was all bullshit. I hope the 30 for 30 highlights that and blows E$PN the f*ck out.

this is why I need feminism

false accusations against frat boys
This is rape culture!

Thousands of Muslim savages raping women in Germany
(Ignore)

Thank you feminism.

I am confident the producers had in depth discussions with the lax lawyers. I would suggest the producers had something no one else had. They had the comparison between a squealy judges 80 hours of nifong hallucinations on tape and the record that the lawyers and NC bar had. Maybe even some of what the AG had.

We will see.
