Hurricane Joaquin to Hammer US East Coast With Flooding, Strong Winds

While there are still scenarios that would take Hurricane Joaquin out to sea, the possibility of the hurricane reaching the Eastern United States coast is gaining merit.

Joaquin is forecast to continue to gather strength just northeast of the Bahamas during the next couple of days before it begins its northward run along the East coast. The system is forecast reach Category 3 strength.

The storm will bring pounding surf, dangerous seas, strong winds, drenching squalls and flash flooding to the central Bahamas. Wind gusts could reach between 75 and 100 mph on some of the islands.

As a result Joaquin will threaten lives and property in the Bahamas through Thursday, before turning northward.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe issued a state of emergency on Wednesday night throughout the entire state in response to the recent flooding and in preparation for Joaquin....snipped

The models are all over the place but I am hoping the cold front due to move thru the mid-Atlantic will blow the top of the bloody thing or send it further off the coast. But I put air in the tires of my generator so I can move it down to the house if needed.

Here in the Raleigh area we are expecting 4 to 9 inches of rain before the hurricane makes it up here.

It will hit the US. It will head out to sea. It will be between the two extremes.

Yet we know that global warming will kill the world in 30 years?

Middle son who is vacationing with us (and packing up remainder of his belongings to take with him) is scheduled to fly to his new home in NYC on Sunday evening. Hope that this has either come and gone or takes a header out to sea without making landfall.

We have already had way too much rain in the last week or so...

They are predicting a lot more too. I hope not.

Sort of reminds me of the hurricane FRAN. We had a bunch of rain a week before Fran came in and dumped lots more. Think we had close to 20 inches or something.

I know you are all experienced veterans and wish you well. I saw that the best model predicts it goes out to sea.

Out here in California we had our first rainfall, .02 inches and the residents are happy. .02". Seriously it looks like the weather pattern has broken
