Well, I had the best of intentions of providing a running account of the CNN debate but I have fallen down on the kiddie table debate. Two phone calls right as the debates began made that impossible - and then my dog needed another walk so.......here it is almost over and I have only caught a few bits and pieces. From what I have seen, none of the four is going to progress from the lower tier so in some respects, this was a waste. I promise to do better when the BIG EVENT comes on. For now, I am going to grade some student essays. |

Interestingly, most of the candidates are busy writing things down - le Donald just seems to be taking stock of the whole proceedings. |

Do not understand why they are beginning with introductions - it is not as if people do not know who is running. Frankly it is wasting time - with 11 people on the stage there is little time anyway for them to talk so spending time on introductions. Huckabee is being quite dissembling in his introductory remarks. Christie pretty clever in his introduction asking for the camera to be on the audience and then posing a question. |

Do not know why Trump made the throw-away comment about Rand Paul. I do not think that either Paul or Trump do themselves any credit by trading jabs about looks. Edited by cks, Sep 16 2015, 07:24 PM.

Rubio making very good points about Russia in the Middle East.......probably the best explication of what affairs in that region. Fiorina thinks that rebuilding the Sixth fleet, etc will scare Putin....but all that takes time and meanwhile Putin has a free hand in that area. |

I cannot believe that Kasich is in favor of the Iran deal (boy - I have been asleep on this....). Kasich IS NOT ready for prime time. Rand Paul calling for lines of communication to be open with Iran and Russia - differing from Fiorina on that issue. |

I will say watching this exchange of comments by the Republicans is more interesting than what one will see on the part of the Democrats........I cannot see any of the Demos going after Hillary with any gusto. |

Kasich getting hammered on his stance on the Iran deal (and rightfully so). Getting to the Kim Davis issue - Huckabee pretty strong on that issue. |

Do not know if I am going to make it through the whole debate, Trump has been quiet for the last ten minutes.......though I think that since the talk has turned to Planned Parenthood there will be attempts to draw Trump out on this issue. |
