It is interesting......there are those who resent social dues (the purpose was to have a fund to send flowers and a card when people are sick, purchase a wedding or baby gift, etc. so that people were not nickel and dimed all the time when such occasions come up - also to make certain that everyone is dealt with equally - which was not done in the past before their was a formal committee with dues). They want to be able to choose who will be remembered and how much (instead of a set amount) will be spent. In the past this led to many hurt feelings (some were remembered and others were not - making it a popularity contest). While no system is perfect, many like getting a little something on their birthday - it is the thought, as has been stated before, that counts. However, it never ceases to amaze me how people find the most inconsequential things (giving of a small token of remembrance) worth moaning about to anyone within earshot.
