Recall how big a story this was in the local and national media...

How excessive the bail was.

How many local civic leaders and others made comments about the case.

How many vigils and marches were organized.

How many editorials were written by the HS and the N&O.

How Newsweek did a cover story.

How nobody had to go to the AG to get the case dropped.

Or...

You might think the news was submerged in order not to interrupt the major narrative
which was being pushed at the same time...

(Perhaps even some of the same people were involved--at Duke Hospital, for example.)

And questions might be asked about how the DA was handling the case of a non-entity of
a woman who was trying to make a rape claim (surely the DA would believe her and take up
her cause?)

About how Nifong had no comments about it whatever.

Ditto for Corporal Addison.

And whether the DPD would assign the case to the sexual crimes unit or to the petty crimes
unit (and detach two officers for duty with the DA to press the case).

POSTER COMMENT in another forum about the media coverage
(from Sept. 2006)

There was a torrent of media coverage this spring in this case where talking heads openly speculated or claimed to have knowledge of brutal broomstick attacks, Date-rape drugs, motives, medical records, and other information regarding the case.

However, these same people won't touch the case now. To my knowledge, with the Date Rape Drug revelation and the Elmo aquittial - there was a 2 minute segment on a cable show regarding two female duke students in an Anti-Nifong rally.

I don't get it - there are viewers interested in the story and certainly a large contingent from North Carolina, but not the slightest interest.

At one point in the TV coverage, they told us the bank that the check was drawn on to post bail for one of the players. Seems very odd, to say the least, to go from that level of coverage to totally off the radar screen.

Of course, there was no bias or agenda in the media coverage at all. . .

And Brodhead was calling on everyone to remember that the accused were innocent until proven guilty...

And if you leave a tooth under your pillow the tooth fairy will bring you a shiny penny...
