Sign of spring: Daylight saving time starts Sunday
Posted: 10:18 a.m. today

WASHINGTON — Ushering in the bloom of spring, it's time to set the clocks forward for daylight saving time.

At 2 a.m. local time Sunday, daylight saving time arrives with the promise of many months ahead with an extra hour of evening sunlight.

You lose an hour of sleep, but make sure to turn the clock ahead — spring forward — before heading to bed Saturday night to avoid the panic of a late rise.

It's also a good time to put new batteries in warning devices such as smoke detectors and hazard warning radios.

Some places don't observe daylight saving time. Those include Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas.

Daylight saving time ends Nov. 3.

ADDED: Don't forget to change your internal clock here on the LS board so all your posts have the correct time attached to them.

I never even noticed that clock before! Mine says EST with DST enabled, and it's already an hour ahead. :confus: I will be two hours ahead after 2:00 a.m. ? (Well, for once, I won't be Late! :laughin: )

In Arizona, the areas which are FEDERAL (ie, national parks and Indian reservations, which comprise about half the state) DO change to daylight
savings time; the rest of the state doesn't.

This means that if you plan to go to the Grand Canyon for a special event at 9:00 AM, and your local clock says it is 9:00 AM,
you are already an hour late (because the Grand Canyon will be running on Federal time*.)

*It's not true that Federal time borrows minutes from the future to use now...
