We seem to come across quite a few minor incidents like this under Barry's leadership (did I say "leadership"?). Anyway, events like this once or twice a year are covered by the simple excuse of error. Unfortunately for us, Barry's life is full of incidents in need of excuses, so we have to wonder if this was planned just to stir the pot? |

I certainly hope he washed his hands first. (A document that old shouldn't be handled at all without archivist's gloves.) |

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/03/09/air-force-reportedly-removes-drone-strike-data-amid-scrutiny/?test=latestnews Air Force reportedly removes drone strike data from website Published March 09, 2013 FoxNews.com Amid a growing debate over U.S. policies for using drones, the Air Force has reportedly reversed its policy of sharing the number of drone strikes in Afghanistan and erased previously published statistics from its website. The Air Force Times reports that the Air Force began publishing monthly data on airstrikes launched from remotely piloted aircraft in Afghanistan in October and made the statistics available in November, December and January. The statistics report for February contained an "empty space" where the data on drone strikes had previously been and reports from previous months had been scrubbed of drone strike data, according to the paper. Pentagon spokesman Cmdr. Bill Speaks told the Air Force Times the Defense Department was not involved in the policy change. Air Forces Central Command did not respond to a request for comment. snip.... |

In the long run, drones may be ineffective and counter-productive Drones are an easy option for a president who does not want the US to be world policeman. ......So why does President Obama pursue the drone program with such enthusiasm? According to one independent estimate (the administration does not release figures), the CIA launched more than six times as many drone strikes in his first term as President Bush did in two terms. For a president who is reluctant to play the role of world policeman, drones look like an easy option, a simple way to show a war-weary public that he is “doing something” to defend America. They may also be the cheap option. But like the sanctions program that is supposed to force Iran to give up its presumed nuclear weapons program, some experts have grave doubts that the drone program can achieve its objective of deterring terrorist acts. Boyle fears it will cause blowback, and quotes Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistani-American who attempted a car bomb attack in Times Square two years ago. When asked by the judge at his trial in New York how he could bring himself to kill innocent people, Shahzad replied: “Well, the drone hits in Afghanistan and Iraq, they don’t see children, they don’t see anybody. They kill women, children, they kill everybody.” The cheap option could prove to be costly in the long run. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatches/news/regions/americas/united-states/drones-ineffective-long-run |
