How many recall the old railroad box car homes?

I had two great uncles which each had them as their first home on the farm ...with hand pump well and an outhouse, both outside. Neither lived in them after I was old enough to remember, but they still used them as sheds and the kitchem cabinets were shelves for storage. One still had to use the outhouse and a hand pump in their kitchen, up until about 1970-ish when they finally plumbed their house.

That's what they looked like, except they were painted. I'd forgotten the the old stove pipes.

I know people are using shipping containers now, with a big challenge being how to get light in there (or natural light).

Many of the Camps up north still have the hand pumps on the wells.

I am a big fan of "tiny living". I despise waste, and seeing these containers converted into useful space does my heart good.

I like this roof garden
