. On the Eve of the Foreign Policy debate and days before the election, the Associated Press is reporting that THE WHITE HOUSE says they want to meet with Iran One-on-One. Maybe Joe Biden will meet with the Ayatollah. He's liable to agree to anything. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20121021/DA21PBV00.html The is the Associated Press and their source is the WHITE HOUSE . Edited by Mason, Oct 21 2012, 08:10 PM.

I've been wondering if the right has anything to do with this story ...if a planted false leak forced the questions to both the WH and to the Iranian administration. |

. But the source is the White House - from friendly, friendly organizations. Someone would have to force the WH to leak it.... Another case where Obama fails to see how something will play with the average American? . Edited by Mason, Oct 21 2012, 08:11 PM.

The original source, as I recall, was an Iranian news outlet, then followed by the response from the WH. Netanyahu says doesn't know of any U.S.-Iran talks With the debate coming up, managing the nuclear problems with Iran and concerns from Israel is a topic. Strange how immediately before the debate the Iranians, WH and Netanyahu are all in the news saying 'nope, no surprise nuclear talks going on now' Edited by kbp, Oct 21 2012, 08:17 PM.

. NEW YORK TIMES: WASHINGTON — The United States and Iran have agreed in principle for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/21/world/iran-said-ready-to-talk-to-us-about-nuclear-program.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 NEW YORK TIMES SOURCES OBAMA ADMIN OFFICIALS . No matter what started the questioning, the WH can still be the source for denials ...and that may be what the right wanted. Just a possible theory on how this conveniently got started. |

. How does that work? How does something said by Iran or GOP Strategists come to be quoted by the New York Times as said by Obama Administration Officials? The NYT and AP are protective of their White House. . |

I had not read the NYTimes when I wrote earlier. This was in print, so they had it Saturday evening at NYT ...prior to anything I've seen on the Iranian news. NYTimes: ....News of the agreement — a result of intense, secret exchanges between American and Iranian officials that date almost to the beginning of President Obama’s term — comes at a critical moment in the presidential contest, just two weeks before Election Day and the weekend before the final debate, which is to focus on national security and foreign policy. It has the potential to help Mr. Obama make the case that he is nearing a diplomatic breakthrough in the decade-long effort by the world’s major powers to curb Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, but it could pose a risk if Iran is seen as using the prospect of the direct talks to buy time. It is also far from clear that Mr. Obama’s opponent, Mitt Romney, would go through with the negotiation should he win election. Mr. Romney has repeatedly criticized the president as showing weakness on Iran and failing to stand firmly with Israel against the Iranian nuclear threat. ....Reports of the agreement have circulated among a small group of diplomats involved with Iran. There is still a chance the initiative could fall through, even if Mr. Obama is re-elected. Iran has a history of using the promise of diplomacy to ease international pressure on it. In this case, American officials said they were uncertain whether Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had signed off on the effort. The American understandings have been reached with senior Iranian officials who report to him, an administration official said. It reads like BS whether it was started by the WH, the right or ??? We have a secret agreement to maybe agree to talk... or not. So the question to me is who does this help? |

Could it have been a big MAYBE tossed out by the WH in order to lighten any damage Barry might suffer on the Iran / Israel topic? Makes me wonder if Netanyahu came out to deny it to help Romney ...if the WH started it to help Barry. Edited by kbp, Oct 21 2012, 09:25 PM.

. I think it's a sign there is disagreement in the WH. Some of them say One-on-One talks are on and then some advisers think that may signal weakness by Obama and elevation of Iran. It's possible they didn't tell Bibi. Sounds like Obama's solution on GM. Bring all parties to table and pick winners and losers, while all the while handing out money. .
