I think Biden really blew it with the giggling and smiling and chuckling and interrupting...

He certainly did not look like a good debater at all...

I wonder what Obama was thinking if he was watching Gigglin' Joe...

My guess is he was thinking about who was to blame.

Biden's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

I changed it a little.

CBS had biden winning by a small margin. I had to turn it off. There was nothing there. Ryan did very well, but could not complete a sentence because of Biden. CBs wandered how this constant interruption would affect the independents. Seems like they were saying Joe was trying to work up his base.

IMO, Ryan won because he talk about things Americans are interested in. He was not into showing his teeth. I will also assume most people will get it that Ryans mouth was dry... so he sipped a lot.

I saw the closing statements and Ryan was definitely better with the final word.

It seemed like Ryan got more time overall, and Biden more opportunities to respond, with Raddatz often changing the topic for Ryan ...after she would stop him as he started a response.

It may just seem like Ryan got more time because he was clearer in getting his message across.

This could just be me, maybe transcripts will help. Raddatz seemed to have stressed for Ryan to be more specific on what his plans were at times (Biden's we see has failed, but she did not ask him) and then interupt him by mentioning he was going too deep into a topic. I need to check on that, even though it does not matter ...can't change it now.

I was not impressed with Raddatz. I had never heard of her before. I avoid ABC as I see it as blatantly anti-Christian at times so that is why I was unaware of her.

I take issue with her saying Iran is the main security or foreign policy threat. She should have asked the candidates for their opinion about that. What about cyber warfare and China. She constricted that topic, IMO, by giving her opinion.

I think Raddatz was a little taken aback by the Jester...

At a time when polls show that Voters disapprove strongly of Congress and despise the inability of both parties to work together, Biden presented himself as a caricature , a Saturday Night Live skit, of just what America detests.  Look at me, Biden...the poster child for our dysfunctional, nasty, closed-minded political know-it-alls!!!

Was he trying to demonstrate why this administration cannot "reach across the aisle" because this has been the  Administration's defining style?  Biden was so extreme...the archetypical cartoon of the rude, arrogant, serial-interrupter who does  not know HOW to listen, or interact, or find consensus. Who could work with the obnoxious, disrespectful hyena Biden presented as last night?

Biden answered the question last night as to why nothing gets done in DC. Only the most partisan hack could look at his "performance" and not think of the creep in the office meetings that makes progress impossible. What Biden said, and Ryan said will be soon forgotten....Biden's bizarre decison to present himself as a Sat Night Live skit will not.

Biden's lie about not voting for the wars is coming to light...
Vice President Joe Biden accused Rep. Paul Ryan of putting two wars on the “credit card,” and then suggested he voted against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“By the way, they talk about this great recession like it fell out of the sky–like, ‘Oh my goodness, where did it come from?’” Biden said. “It came from this man voting to put two wars on a credit card, at the same time, put a prescription drug plan on the credit card, a trillion dollar tax cut for the very wealthy.”

“I was there, I voted against them,” Biden continued. “I said, no, we can’t afford that.”

Then Sen. Biden voted for the Afghanistan resolution on Sept. 14, 2001 which authorized “the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States.”

And on Oct. 11, 2002, Biden voted for a resolution authorizing unilateral military action in Iraq, according to the Washington Post.

I ACTUALLY WONDERED ABOUT HIS WAR VOTES WHEN HE SAID IT!

"...put two wars on a credit card, at the same time, put a prescription drug plan on the credit card, a trillion dollar tax cut..."

The irony in his statement about blame for how the "great recession" got started reads like he condemns borrowing to spend and tax cuts all income levels got a piece of.

Here's what I think.

Somewhere in the inner recesses of Joe's murky brain was a concern that
he could come off as a bully during the debate with his interruption tactics.

So, he figured if he kept smiling a lot, that would override the bully aspect,
or at least diminish it.

But when I look at the pictures of him smiling, he looks totally whacked.

It's like Clint said: "Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party."

abb: Haha! The likeness is uncanny :)

And, by the way, that's one of my favorite movies.
In my family, we often joke around with quotes from that movie.

I have son with special needs who is in the Best Buddies Program at his High School.

The young girl who is the current President of the Best Buddies Program at his High School
posted the comment below last night at facebook. I would have never guessed this girl
to be conservative, and I've never seen her post anything politics-related before:

"I am embarrassed for our country right now. Our vice president can't even act professionally during a debate."

Maybe it was planned that way to keep Libya and the economy out of the headlines!
