George Will http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/george-f-will-romneys-trifecta/2012/10/04/8e4fc77a-0e4d-11e2-bb5e-492c0d30bff6_story.html "Barack Obama, knight of the peevish countenance, illustrated William F. Buckley’s axiom that liberals who celebrate tolerance of other views always seem amazed that there are other views. Obama, who is not known as a martyr to the work ethic and who might use a teleprompter when ordering lunch, seemed uncomfortable with a format that allowed fluidity of discourse. His vanity — remember, he gave Queen Elizabeth an iPod whose menu included two of his speeches — perhaps blinds him to the need to prepare. And to the fact that it is not lese-majeste to require him to defend his campaign ads’ dubious assertions with explanations longer than the ads. And to the ample evidence, such as his futile advocacy for Democratic candidates and Obamacare, that his supposed rhetorical gifts are figments of acolytes’ imaginations. |

White House Authorizes Search for President’s Mojo WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The White House today announced that it was offering a “substantial cash reward” for information leading to “the location and safe return of President Obama’s mojo.” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced the search with an air of urgency: “We will use every resource at our disposal to ensure the return of the President’s mojo, and that goes double for his groove.” Mr. Carney said that as of late Wednesday afternoon no one at the White House knew the President’s mojo was missing, but minutes into last night’s televised debate “it became clear that something was terribly, horribly wrong.” Even if the White House is successful in locating Mr. Obama’s mojo, Mr. Carney acknowledged, it could take days or even weeks to get it working. In an effort to reboot his campaign, President Obama plans to announce some bold initiatives for his second term, including killing Osama bin Laden again. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/

Toast: Great new Avatar. The croissant was created by bakers in the city of Vienna to celebrate the breaking of the Ottoman siege of the city by the forces of King John Sobieski of Poland in the 1500's. One can regard (if one wants to be politically incorrect) the eating of a croissant as a patriotic act - chomping down on the attempt by radical iIslamicists (today) to establish a new caliphate. BTW, I like mine with blackberry jam. |

What great posts! Totus at a Town hall meeting debate. Can you imagine Obama walking around with two portable teleprompters attached? But I have to admit thanks to CKS for the croissant info. One of my great travel hotel memories is checking into a small hotel in Cannes, France and waking up the next morning to coffee, croissants, butter, and blackberry jam. It was Heaven! One other "crescent" trivia. The Austrians also make a cookie called the kipferl - shaped, of course, like the crescent - same idea chomp, chomp, chomp on the idea of the next caliphate. BTW, it is a delicious butter cookie make with walnuts, flour, butter, (of course) and sugar. When it come out of the oven it is rolled in powder suger - much like a Mexican wedding cake. We make and eat lots of kipferl at Christmas every year - one of my children's favorite Christmas cookies. |

I have a mental picture Obama at the podium wearing beer hat, except instead of beer cans he is sporting 2 teleprompters. |

cks, When i learned the history of the croissant (thank you), I simply could not resist, and spent a good while looking for pictures of toasted croissants! Reserved one that is really burnt, for special occasions. And my household has stopped purchasing regular bread, we only consume croissants now. Unfortunately, we have none of my homemade wild blackberry preserves left on the shelf. It goes fast. |

Romney takes 3 point lead in Florida Polls show Romney making headway in swing states A set of new swing-state polls show Mitt Romney making big gains in three critical battleground states just two days after the Republican nominee's widely-heralded debate performance. The polls — from conservative-leaning Rasmussen and We Ask America — showed Romney closing the gap or leading in Ohio, Florida and Virginia, three states the GOP candidate would likely need to capture to win the White House. And they represent a dramatic reversal from last week, where polls showed President Obama with a commanding lead. In Ohio, the We Ask America poll gave Romney a 47-46 percent edge over the president, while Rasmussen flipped those results, giving Obama a 50-49 percent lead. Both polling firms completed the sampling for their survey Thursday, in the aftermath of Wednesday's shaky debate for the president....snipped http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/polls/260511-polls-show-romney-making-swing-state-charge |

I always tell my students this (one of the small things that one can do teaching in a Catholic school where - thus far - no Muslim students have enrolled) and they think it is hilarious. As I like to say to them, history is all around us - how can you not like history as your favorite subject!!!! |

Were this a ball game, I'd love seeing it go down to the bottom of the ninth tied up, but that game has rules both teams must follow! |
