CNN Alert

Angry protesters attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, citing in both instances an online film considered offensive to Islam.

The Libyan government notified the United States that an employee at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was killed, a State Department official told CNN. The State Department does not have independent confirmation of the death.

Egyptian groups point to U.S. websites, including YouTube, that have scenes from the film. Some anti-Muslim blogs also have flagged the movie. It was not clear late Tuesday who produced the film and under what auspices.

Just a coincidence it happened on 911

Must not hurt Obama's campaign chances
"It was not clear late Tuesday who produced the film and under what auspices."

http://apnews.myway.com//article/20120912/DA17TT5G1.html

This article might clear up who produced the film:

"... The crowd chanted, "Islamic, Islamic. The right of our prophet will not die." Some shouted, "We are all Osama," referring to al-Qaida leader bin Laden. Young men, some in masks, sprayed graffiti on the walls. Some grumbled that Islamist President Mohammed Morsi had not spoken out about the movie.

A group of women in black veils and robes that left only their eyes exposed chanted, "Worshippers of the Cross, leave the Prophet Muhammad alone."

By midnight, the crowd had dwindled. The U.S. Embassy said on its Twitter account that there will be no visa services on Wednesday because of the protests.

A senior Egyptian security official at the embassy area said authorities allowed the protest because it was "peaceful." When they started climbing the walls, he said he called for more troops, denying that the protesters stormed the embassy. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

The Cairo embassy is in a diplomatic area in Garden City, where the British and Italian embassies are located, only a few blocks away from Tahrir Square, the center of last year's uprising that led to the ouster of Hosni Mubarak. The U.S. Embassy is built like a fortress, with a wall several meters (yards) high. But security has been scaled back in recent months, with several roadblocks leading to the facility removed after legal court cases by residents.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry promised in a statement to provide the necessary security for diplomatic missions and embassies and warned that "such incidents will negatively impact the image of stability in Egypt, which will have consequences on the life of its citizens."

One protester, Hossam Ahmed, said he was among those who entered the embassy compound and replaced the American flag with the black one. He said the group has now removed the black flag from the pole and laid it instead on a ladder on top of the wall.

"This is a very simple reaction to harming our prophet," said another, bearded young protester, Abdel-Hamid Ibrahim.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Egyptian police had removed the demonstrators who entered the embassy grounds. Speaking before reports of the slain American emerged, she condemned the attack on the consulate in Libya "in the strongest terms."

Muslims find it offensive to depict Muhammad in any fashion, much less in an insulting way. The 2005 publication of 12 caricatures of the prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper triggered riots in many Muslim countries.

A 14-minute trailer of the movie that sparked the protests, posted on the website YouTube in an original English version and another dubbed into Egyptian Arabic, depicts Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a madman in an overtly ridiculing way, showing him having sex and calling for massacres.

A YouTube spokesman said the website would not take down the video at this point. The spokesman said the website's policy is to remove videos that include a threat of violence, but not those only expressing opinions.

"We take great care when we enforce our policies and try to allow as much content as possible while ensuring that our Community Guidelines are followed," the YouTube representative said. "Flagged content that does not violate our Guidelines will remain on the site."

Sam Bacile, an American citizen who said he produced, directed and wrote the two-hour film, said he had not anticipated such a furious reaction.

"I feel sorry for the embassy. I am mad," Bacile said.

Speaking from a telephone with a California number, Bacilesaid he is Jewish and familiar with the region. Bacile said the film was produced in English and he doesn't know who dubbed it in Arabic. The full film has not been shown yet, he said, and he said he has declined distribution offers for now.

"My plan is to make a series of 200 hours" about the same subject, he said.

Morris Sadek, an Egyptian-born Christian in the U.S. known for his anti-Islam views, told The Associated Press from Washington that he was promoting the video on his website and on certain TV stations, which he did not identify...."

******************************

Sam Bacile, who is Jewish, produced the film. Morris Sadek, Egyptian born Christian, is promoting the film. Reading further in the article, Coptic Christians are disassociating themselves from the film.

IMO, this film is an obvious attempt to instigate, antagonize, and provoke. Not sure why.

New clashes outside US Embassy in Cairo

Egyptian security forces have used tear gas on a raging crowd of demonstrators near the US Embassy in Cairo. Several dozen people have reportedly been injured as the police dispersed the stone-throwing demonstrators.

Riot police have managed to push a group of several hundred protesters back in Cairo's side streets near the embassy.

Some of the protesters have been injured, state news agency MENA reported, giving no further details. Witnesses reporting the incident on Twitter said as many as several dozen people may have been injured.

The incident comes just a day after some 2,000 demonstrators gathered around the US embassy, while a group of the most conservative protesters tore down the American flag and replaced it with a black banner bearing the traditional Islamic message, “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Prophet.”..snipped

What is “FORWARD”?

I also call upon the Egyptian government to reverse the actions that they’ve taken to interfere with access to the Internet, to cell phone service and to social networks that do so much to connect people in the 21st century.
[tools of the ...terrorists?]

At the same time, those protesting in the streets have a responsibility to express themselves peacefully. Violence and destruction will not lead to the reforms that they seek.

Now, going forward, this moment of volatility has to be turned into a moment of promise. The United States has a close partnership with Egypt and we've cooperated on many issues, including working together to advance a more peaceful region. But we've also been clear that there must be reform — political, social, and economic reforms that meet the aspirations of the Egyptian people.

Barack Hussein Obama - 1/28/11

The word Tahrir means liberation. It is a word that speaks to that something in our souls that cries out for freedom. And forevermore it will remind us of the Egyptian people — of what they did, of the things that they stood for, and how they changed their country, and in doing so changed the world.
Barack Hussein Obama - 2/11/11

Members of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood met with U.S. officials including White House staffers, the administration confirmed Tuesday.

"Following Egypt's revolution, we have broadened our engagement to include new and emerging political parties and actors," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told POLITICO.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed to Fox News that Obama is not expected to meet with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, though insisted it was just a scheduling problem. He said Obama will be at the United Nations on Sept. 24 and leave the following day, while Netanyahu won’t be in the city until later in the week.

Egypt's powerful Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday called for nationwide protests Friday after a film deemed offensive to Islam sparked a deadly attack in Libya and furious protests in Cairo.

The Brotherhood calls "for peaceful protests on Friday outside all the main mosques in all of Egypt's provinces to denounce offenses to religion and to the Prophet," the Muslim Brotherhood's Secretary General Mahmud Hussein said in a statement.

He also urged all "national forces to join the protests."

The Muslim Brotherhood, from which President Mohammed Morsi emerged, is the largest and most organized political force in the country.

Should we re-think the moving “FORWARD”?

Maybe Barry HUSSEIN could invite both Mosri and Netanyahu over for dinner (if the chefs can keep the menu straight)!

REPORTS: No Live Ammo for Marines

Marine blogs say U.S. embassy did not authorize service members to carry ammo

U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.

Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”

U.S. officials have yet to confirm or comment on the reports. Time magazine’s Battleland blog reported Thursday “Senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi, so answers may be slow in coming.”

If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.

“She did not defend U.S. sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office,” the report states. “She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.”..snipped

We seem to have U.S. diplomatic compounds invaded in both Libya and Egypt, along with the killings.

Barry, our "brilliant one", knew what the Libyan Madman was going to do before he did it, so we blasted many to protect the foreign civilians.

What about protecting our civilians?
Good point. Why didn't we beef up the Marine detachment, when we knew of the threats. More troubling, were the Marines in both embassies given no fire orders. How could the US ambassador be captured, killed, and dragged through the streets, without a shot being fired. Congress should immediately call Marine brass before it to reveal what orders the commander in chief gave them. This just does not pass the smell test.
Several US Marine blogs report that US Ambessador, Anne Patterson, barred Marines from having live ammo in the Cairo embassy. Good grief! She must be recalled asap. Security not much better in Lybia, where ambassador was in a "safe house", protected by Lybian and state dept security, not Marines. house had no defensive features, such as bullit proof windows, hard to breach doors, etc. All of this taking place on 9/11 in the face of numerous threats. See free beacon.com.

I don't believe in sending any Marine or any soldier where they can't carry live ammo. They are targets! The uniform is a target.

What kind of idiot Ambassador makes that order? Especially since the Marines are there to protect the Embassy & her!

An Obama appointed Ambassador under HRC.

Maybe it about time we have some Joint Chiefs of Staff with some balls? They should absolutely tell Obama this has to stop.

White House clarifies Obama’s statement that Egypt is not an ‘ally’

President Barack Obama didn't intend to signal any change in the U.S.-Egypt relationship last night when he said Egypt is not an "ally," the White House told The Cable today.

In an interview with Telemundo Wednesday night, Obama said that the U.S. relationship with the new Egyptian government was a "work in progress," and emphasized that the United States is counting on the government of Egypt to better protect the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which was attacked by protesters on Sept. 11.

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident."

That comment had Egypt watchers scratching their heads, especially since technically, Egypt was designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally in 1989 when Congress first passed the law creating that status, which gives them special privileges in cooperating with the United States, especially in the security and technology areanas.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told The Cable Thursday that the administration is not signaling a change in that status.

"I think folks are reading way too much into this," Vietor said. "‘Ally' is a legal term of art. We don't have a mutual defense treaty with Egypt like we do with our NATO allies. But as the president has said, Egypt is longstanding and close partner of the United States, and we have built on that foundation by supporting Egypt's transition to democracy and working with the new government." ...snipped

I couldn't agree more, Baldo. The Commandant of the US Marine Corps should immediately inform his Commaner in Chief that he cannot continue to send Marine in harms way without a means to defend themselves. If O refuses to permit necessary weapons and ammo, the Commandant should resign. He cannot disobey a direct order, but he cannot ethically send his Marines into places like Cairo, Lybia without a means of defense.
