Cairo protesters scale U.S. Embassy wall, remove flag

Egyptian demonstrators climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today and pulled down the American flag to protest a film they say is insulting to the prophet Mohammad.

Update at 2:07 p.m. ET: CNN reports that U.S. security guards fired a volley of warning shots as the crowd gathered outside the embassy walls.

CNN adds that the embassy had been expecting a demonstration and cleared all diplomatic personnel earlier from the facility.

Original post: The Associated Press reports that embassy officials say there was no staff inside at the time.

Reuters reports that protesters tried to raise a black flag carrying the slogan: "There is no god but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger."

The news agency says about 2,000 protesters have gathered outside the embassy and about 20 have scaled the walls.

The AP says the protesters were largely ultra-conservative Islamists.

Iran's FARS news agency says the film is the work of a group of "extremist" members of the Egyptian Coptic Church in the United States.

Al Ahram online says the film is reportedly being produced by U.S.-based Coptic-Christian Egyptians, including Esmat Zaklama and Morees Sadek, with the support of the Terry Jones Church in the United States....snipped

CNN Alert

Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today and hauled down its U.S. flags, replacing them with black flags with Islamic emblems.

The incident prompted U.S. security guards to fire off a volley of warning shots as a large crowd gathered outside, apparently upset about the production of a Dutch film thought to insult the prophet Mohammed, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene.

An Embassy operator told CNN that the facility had been cleared of diplomatic personnel earlier in the day, ahead of the apparent threat, while Egyptian riot police were called to help secure the Embassy walls.

Obama's 2009 Speech in Cairo did a lot of good.

Didn't we just approve letting them buy submarines from NATO ally Germany?

Egypt's Naval Commander Osama Ahmed el-Gendy, said on Friday that Egypt has signed an agreement with Germany in which the former will acquire two German-built Type-209 attack submarines.

Did we give them or lend them the money to buy this?

Mob sets fire to US consulate in Benghazi: witness

An armed mob has attacked the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi and set fire to the building, witnesses reported, in what they said was a protest at a film they said offended Islam.

A little earlier, Libya's deputy interior minister Wanis al-Shari, told AFP the crowd had attacked the building and that information was confirmed by the US embassy in the capital Tripoli.

"There are fierce clashes between the Libyan army and an armed militia outside the U.S. consulate," Abdel-Monen Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee, said to Reuters, adding that roads had been closed off and security forces were surrounding the building.

A U.S. embassy source said there had been "an attack" on the diplomatic office in Benghazi, but gave no further details.

Wow, looks like we could have another 1979, assault on our Embassy, under the leadership of President Jimmy Carter. Why would anyone consider voting for Obama, with this horrible foreign policy. Our Embassies are under attack in the middle east and the President refuses to meet with PM Netanyahu and the Obama administration is bragging about their foreign policy. Romney may have no foreign policy experience, but I am sure he has more common sense.

Netanyahu To Obama: ‘Wait For What? Wait Until When?’

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making it clear that Israel will not wait to take out Iranian nuclear facilities.

In heated comments toward the United States, the Israeli prime minister said that it’s becoming clear that diplomacy will not work with Iran.

“The world tells Israel, `Wait. There’s still time,’” Netanyahu said Tuesday, according to The Associated Press. “And I say: `Wait for what? Wait until when?’ Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.”..snipped

Now it appears that we are back in 1979 under Jimmy Carter, will Obama do anything? This president is an absolute disgrace, he is weak and the rest of the world now knows that. If Obama doesn't react to these events, he will signal to everyone he is weak and other Americans abroad will be attacked. Obama is clueless on foreign affairs, as well as Hilliary Clinton.
