Some time after midnight, Foxnews replayed all the key speeches including Eastwood's. I watched it again. There's no way one can truthfully say that his speech "puzzled the GOP convention." The attendees were on the feet cheering and clapping many times during his speech. It was the most energy the audience exhibited all night. They media is just trying to create yet another distraction/diversion. Plus, they're mad at Clint for his direct and scathing digs at Obama and Biden. |

I have to speak up for Sarah Palin. The context of her being named by McCain in 2008 and the media's attack against her resides in the media's relationship with McCain more than anything else. IMO, the media thought McCain was one of them or at least they had an understanding with him. In order not to fall flat at the Republican convention, McCain picked Palin because she would generate support and enthusiasm among the convention-goers-- something he could not. I think the pick of Palin blindsided the media who had assumed McCain would pick a conventional mainstream candidate. When McCain picked Palin without the wolf pack media's blessing or imput, they went ballistic. Besides, I believe it was already determined, early on that Obama was their man and they proceeded to be in the tank for him. In the case of NBC and MSNBC, the parent company GE, it seems, benefited from Obama economically so there may have been an economic interest as well as political interest in supporting Obama. McCain's campaign staff probably sabotaged Palin as much as the media attacked her. The nature of the media is elitist and Palin, in upbringing or character, is not elitist. Palin did fine in the debate with Biden and was great on the campaign trail. She has a good track record with those she has endorsed or supported such as Ted Cruz and Nikki Haley. She has shown loyality in endorsing John McCain against J.D. Hayworth in the Republican primary in Arizona and for Orrin Hatch against a very good Tea Party candidate in the Utah primary. |

Drudge links to this article at Breitbart which puts it much better than I stated above: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/2012/08/30/Eastwood-Mocks-Obama Eastwood hit Obama in every sweet spot we've been waiting for him to get hit on: The incompetence; the lies; the empty, pretentious rhetoric; the inexperience; and that roaring blowhard of a moron Obama chose to be a heartbeat away. Oh, and the empty chair. Other than an empty suit, there is no sharper metaphor. Eastwood also made one of the very best points of the night: WE own this country, and when someone doesn't do the job "we have to let them go." The media, naturally, is furious. They don’t like to see Their Precious One mocked and they also understand the power of mockery -- which is why they keep Stewart and Colbert on such a tight leash. This is why the media has already written 25 stories (5 from Politico) mocking Eastwood. Had Eastwood said the things the media likes to hear with the same nervousness and hesitation, they would've called him wizened and seasoned. But because he mocked Their Precious One, suddenly he's some kind of embarrassment. And now Politico, Ben Smith and CNN are all talking about how they intend to use Eastwood as way to overwhelm Mitt Romney's speech in the coming days. Like they wouldn't have found another reason. All I can say in response is: Go to hell you Obama-shilling crybabies. Eastwood showed more grit and honestly in those few minutes than you water carriers have during your entire propaganda-for-the-collective careers. What Eastwood did tonight was funnier, fresher, edgier, and braver than anything those comedy cowards Chris Rock, Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert have done in 15 years. 82 years-old, and Dirty Harry is still pissing all the right people off. Ryan couldn't have done it himself. I AM saying that Congressional threatening not to raise the debt ceiling, in which Ryan was an eager participant, was the biggest contributing factor to the downgrade.

What Ryan said in his speech:
What Ryan said about the Bowles-Simpson commission report was that we could NOT raise taxes at this time. Barry just plain ignored it and submitted his own budget. What happened to Barry’s budget:
So what did Ryan do? He proposed a budget that would not increase taxes during a recession. What Bowles had to say about it:
Were anyone to point out that Ryan’s disapproval of the tax increases in the Bowles-Simpson commission report is some sort of record that shows Ryan is a do nothing liar who wanted to prevent any solutions to our economy, that person would be pissin’ in the wind and getting wet in the process. As for no. 1 we must remember that Obama is president. He has a responsibility to the American people on such issues. Ryan does not have the same responsibilities. And Ryan explained his reason for voting the way he did. As Ryan said, the president never came to him to discuss the issue. No.2 is also a presidential responsibility and the public reason for a downgrade as explained by Ryan on interview was not what the S&P said to him personally when he asked. At least that is what Ryan said. I know the president is not very good, but we should not neglect what his constitutional responsibilities are. IMO, he would rather play golf to get rid of the stress of the job. He does not like congress and will not work with them now, or if he gets reelected. The lack of working with congress was shown during the first 2 years of his presidency with both houses in democrat control.. And I believe he has even jokingly commented how much more he could do if congress was not in the way. There is no compromise in this man. I agree politics is something that is more dog poop than lemonade, but we as a people do not get all the information we should. We only get what we are told. Sorta sad IMO. And then one party calls people to stupid to know what we are all about. How degrading to the people who do "own this country". When this country was founded by the rich and well to do, a lot of other people in the country could not read or write. But one of the great things about the founders is they included them when this country was started. Before we say that Ryan was spouting dishonest distortions, it would be nice if one could talk with him first about his comments. He was interviewed about these distortions and he explained, to my satisfaction, why he said them the way he did. moo |

Clint's speech may not have been well-polished, but he made his points loud and clear, to rousing applause. Foxnews just posted a correct portrayal: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/30/clint-eastwood-brings-down-house-at-gop-convention/ Legendary Hollywood tough guy Clint Eastwood brought down the house with a comic turn Thursday night at the Republican National Convention, telling America it’s time to give a “stellar” businessman a chance to become president and say goodbye to the "attorney." “I think it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problems,” he said to loud applause. His stand-in for the "attorney," President Obama, was an empty chair on stage that he addressed in a mock interview -- a performance both awkward and uproarious, while being perfectly Clint. At one point, he told the chair-Obama to “shut up.” Eastwood’s appearance before Mitt Romney's speech accepting the GOP presidential nomination capped days of buzz about the convention's “mystery guest.” The secret was out by the time Eastwood strolled onto the stage to huge applause. “Save a little for Mitt,” Eastwood said, before declaring, “I wasn’t a big supporter” of Obama. The star of “Dirty Harry” and a two-time Oscar-winning director jokingly said he -- like Oprah Winfrey and other Americans -- wept with joy when Obama was elected in 2008. He then turned serious, saying he wept harder at the realization 23 million people are unemployed in the United States. Eastwood, seemingly speaking off-the-cuff, quickly tried to knock down the criticism that somebody from “left-wing Hollywood” could back a GOP presidential candidate, saying Hollywood conservatives may not “go around hot-dogging, but believe me, they are there.” The 82-year-old actor was critical of Obama’s war in Afghanistan, saying he should have considered that Russia fought unsuccessfully there for 10 years. And of course, it wasn't too hard for the audience to persuade him to deliver his signature line: “Go ahead, make my day," he said, with the crowd joining in. Sarah Palin, during the 2008 campaign, added energy and intellect to an otherwise lackluster campaign. I believe the only reason that McCain did as well as he did was because of her. |

Duke Parent09 - S&P blamed the Republicans for the downgrade in return for a deal from the Obama administration not to be pursued for their own fraud regarding the bond ratings on those poop-laden sausages known as mortgage-backed securities.

Before the convention pundits were expecting Ryan to give a Policy wonk speech filled with details that would mire listeners into unconsciousness. He didn't. Instead he chose to give a simplified version that most could understand. I thought it was excellent. I don't believe Ryan told whoppers. Trying to explain the downgrading of the credit rating of the USA would take too much time as well as the negotiations regarding Simon-Boles. He wanted real cuts in spending with no new taxes and refused to budge. I applaud him for that. Ryan stands for a more fiscally responsible govt. One that reduces the yearly deficit that is running well over 1.2 Trillion dollars a year. Obama has already proven he stands for more spending, bigger govt, and has produced 5 1/2 Trillion in new debt to prove it. The choice is clear as of now. Whether or not we can dig ourselves out of the deep hole is a question I cannot answer, but at least the United States of America could pass a budget. Something that Senate Majority Leader Henry Reid & his Democratically controlled Senate hasn't done in over three years. By any measure of governance Obama, Bite-it, Reid, and the former Speaker Pelosi should have been removed for malfeasance of office. I am not running for office and so I am not not constrained by the reality you must win votes and can't be too pessimistic. By any measure we are at a crossroads where further delays in getting our financial house in order will only make the fall much worse. Notice I said fall. We have already fallen in real assets. So many of our fellow Americans have lost their homes, lost their savings, lost their retirements, and have children with huge college debts and a $9/hr job as a retail clerk to pay them back. It could get worse. That's the real situation we are facing. |

The media has found their latest 'shiny object' in Eastwood. A new distraction from the mess of the economy and the failed polices of this administration. They will do anything to protect their 'tarnished' savior. Eastwood did a good job pointing out many of the blemishes for everyone to see. Politicians of every stripe can have linguistic and factual jujitsu applied to their speeches. There's a big difference between a simplistic descriptions of complex issues and a blatant or fabricated lie. It is an important distinction. I think the media are finally coming to realize there's no way to hide the blemishes anymore. I thought I would enjoy watching their heads explode . . . but . . . I can't help holding my breath until Nov 6. Then I'll go back to watch and enjoy the reruns on YouTube. |
