Artur Davis to RNC: My Bad on Obama
The former Democrat slammed the same man whose candidacy he championed four years ago.

(The Root) -- You can't blame Republicans for inviting Artur Davis to their convention.

They'd like to embarrass President Barack Obama. And as gags go, they could do a lot worse than bringing in Davis -- the very same guy who seconded Obama's nomination at the Democrats' convention in Denver four years ago -- and handing him a headlining speaking slot at theirs.

So, on Tuesday night in Tampa, Republicans got what they wanted as Davis -- a former four-term Democratic Alabama congressman -- capped his 2008 Democratic convention speech with a prime-time address at this year's GOP gathering:

Thanking the cheering crowd for "welcoming me where I belong," Davis said he spoke for more than "six million of us who got it wrong in 2008," and voiced his support for Mitt Romney while knocking the president on Obamacare, gas prices and the president's "flowery words" -- words he said that once "blinded us a little."

Mocking the well-worn themes of the last four years, from "yes, we can" to "moving oceans and healing planets" -- a dig at Obama's own speech four years ago in Denver -- in ten minutes, Davis completely disowned the president.

All he forgot to say was, "my bad."

Because in 2008, Davis wasn't just any Obama supporter. Back then -- in flowery words of his own -- he proclaimed that Obama "will lead and inspire the free world."

LOL Kerri! and I was just going to post Mia's speech text specifically for Mason to see, knowing he'd like parts of it! :laughin:

Text of Mia Love’s GOP convention speech

Remarks as Prepared for Delivery by The Hon. Mia Love, Mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Republican Candidate for Congress from Utah’s Fourth District:
  • Let me tell you about the America I know. My parents immigrated to the U.S. with ten dollars in their pocket, believing that the America they had heard about really did exist. When times got tough they didn’t look to Washington, they looked within.

So the America I came to know was centered in personal responsibility and filled with the American dream.

The America I know is grounded in the determination found in patriots and pioneers, in small business owners with big ideas, in the farmers who work in the beauty of our landscape, in our heroic military and Olympians. It’s in every child who looks at the seemingly impossible and says, "I can do that." That is the America I know!

President Obama’s version of America is a divided one -- pitting us against each other based on our income level, gender, and social status. His policies have failed! We are not better off than we were 4 years ago, and no rhetoric, bumper sticker, or campaign ad can change that.

Mr. President I am here to tell you we are not buying what you are selling in 2012.

The American Dream is our story. It is a story of human struggle, standing up and striving for more. It’s been told for over 200 years with small steps and giant leaps; from a woman on a bus to a man with a dream; and the bravery of the greatest generation, to the entrepreneurs of today.

This is our story. This is the America we know because we built it.

With Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan we can restore the America we know and love. The world will know it, our children will tell it and our grandchildren will possess it for years to come!

    God bless America.

Right here on The Root, he lauded candidate Obama for proposing "a new social contract on health insurance" -- which President Obama delivered -- right before Davis ditched him.

It was that about-face which led Davis' former House colleagues to describe his party switch as “a nakedly personal and political calculation."

But Davis said Democrats no longer speak for him, and charged that Obama broke faith with Democrats past. He heaped praise on LBJ's great society programs -- and with no trace of irony, saluted Bill Clinton -- the president who tried and failed to deliver healthcare reform. While ignoring that Obamacare took Romneycare national, he said that Obama never adopted "a single Republican idea."

Davis even found time to squeeze "Let's take this country back" in.

He just never made it quite clear from whom.

Wow Kerri, knowing where that came from I had to read the rest to figure out where they were going with it. I certainly didn't expect a positive outcome from that source!

We needed the rest to figure out WTH they meant by him forgetting "my bad".

"...he proclaimed that Obama "will lead and inspire the free world.""

Just ask the women of Egypt, the residents of Israel, those facing the Taliban...

"...Right here on The Root, he lauded candidate Obama for proposing "a new social contract on health insurance" -- which President Obama delivered "

Just after Barry's promise of no MANDATE, but before we learned of how the middle class will be hit with taxes and Medicare cut to pay for it, that Obamacare that raises the cost of healthcare and skyrockets it in the second decade it would exist.

"...While ignoring that Obamacare took Romneycare national, he said that Obama never adopted "a single Republican idea."

There's that argument that goes both ways again; either Romney did well with heathcare or he is so cold he'll cut all of it out.

Also, I'm waiting for THE ROOT to mention the black unemployment Barry is solving ...another "my bad" for Artur!

Sick: Wikipedia entry calls Mia Love ‘dirty, worthless whore’ and ‘House N@gger’
That was something that was written on her web site that was hijacked. I believe it has now been scrubbed.

Personal Responsibility?

Are you allowed to say that in public?

Thank you for the posting. It is very impressive. We need more of that!

Well Mason, I sense you now have the answer to WHY others did not go directly at Obama ...they were saving it for Ryan.

I just heard chris "tingles" mathews say that he thought Candi's speech was really weak. The other two talking heads disagreed with tingles.

Ryan is a better campaigner than I dreamed he was. I want him to debate Biden AND Barry!

I loved how he went after Obamacare, helping the people understand the simple story of what the Obama crew stole from Medicare.

I was disappointed he did NOT

....finish what he started in explaining Medicare and how it relates to Obamacare before the next decade even gets here, and

...WHY they stole from Medicare in the first place.
