I think a few people are delusional. Isaac was worse than expected, but it was no Katrina.

Katrina smashed the joint up like Godzilla on a bender.

I think the point Bastardi and others are making is that the obsession over calling it a tropical storm until the last minute was misguided at best.

I've followed Bastardi for a number of years. Over on FRee Republic, hurricane threads are the bailiwick of FReeper Nauti Nurse, who lives in the Naples area. Her threads of Katrina were the single best source of information available, bar none. Tons of data and video and pics, all sourced and verified.

The consensus among the participants in her threads is that Bastardi is a showboat and prone to predict disaster at every turn. Snowstorms, floods, heat, whatever - its always the end of the world with him. Of course, that's the opinion of the posters.

But IIRC, the scientific definition of "hurricane" is sustained surface winds of 74 mph. Until that measurement was observed, then it was a tropical storm, no matter Joe's opinion.

Parts unknown
.
How may Billions have been spent?

If parts of New Orleans can't handle a CAT 1 - then someone needs to answer for this.

When the shouting's over with, I suspect that it was a relatively small number of houses that flooded in Braithwaite. It is a very sparsely populated area that is settled along the river road only.

But it makes for great TV and the drama queens who now control weather "reporting."

Did it take him a few days to set up fundraisers while he's down there?

All joking aside, I do wonder if that will happen.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki told POLITICO earlier Friday that the president had no plans yet to visit the Gulf state and review damage from Hurricane Isaac, even though Mitt Romney announced plans to visit Friday.
