Looks like Issac has decided to not attend the Republican National Convention![]() Unfortunately it now looks to take aim at New Orleans Tropical Storm Isaac Should Rival Hurricane Katrina By Michael Barak, Joseph Bastardi and Alan Lammey On August 24th, we warned on Forbes that Tropical Storm Isaac could pose a threat to energy markets and even rival Hurricane Katrina in its destructive power (Could Tropical Storm Isaac Turn Into Another Katrina?). While the computer models are still showing a substantial spread in solutions, it appears more likely that Isaac will make landfall somewhere near the Louisiana, Mississippi Gulf Coast. This track will provide the storm more time to intensify over the very warm water of the Gulf of Mexico...snipped http://www.forbes.com/sites/weatherbell/2012/08/26/tropical-storm-isaac-should-rival-hurricane-katrina/ When Bastardi talks I listen |

The RNC did the right thing and decided to open the convention, then send everyone to a safe place to ride out the storm. They will kick off the rest of the conven. when the storm has past. |

As of now it won't even effect the Convention as the tropical storm warnings have been taken off.Tampa Bay. Meanwhile Mayor Mitch Landrieu has declared a state of emergency for the city of New Orleans in advance of Tropical Storm Isaac. Surrounded by other city officials and City Council members, Landrieu said he declared the emergency "so that everybody in the city of new orleans can begin to prepare." "It is important to be on high alert," the mayor said, noting that the city is about 36 hours away from a direct hit from Isaac according to current track predictions. "The better part of wisdom here is to be prepared," Landrieu said. Landrieu also said he expects the storm to soon reach hurricane intensity....snipped http://www.nola.com/hurricane/index.ssf/2012/08/mayor_mitch_landrieu_declares.html Hopefully he will do a better job of being prepared than former Mayor Ray Nagin of Chocolate City fame. The newest track of Issac shows it will miss Tampa but may hit New Orleans as a Cat 1 or 2 Hurricane. Politically, it will move the Republican convention from being the main news and if NO is severly affected, it will take away the impact of the convention. One of the newscasters at CNN said the hurricane could hit NO on the anniversary of Katrina. Quite a coincidence. Makes one think of weather modification. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_control "Weather modification is the act of intentionally manipulating or altering the weather. The most common form of weather modification is cloud seeding to increase rain or snow, usually for the purpose of increasing the local water supply[1]. Weather modification can also have the goal of preventing damaging weather, such as hail or hurricanes, from occurring; or of provoking damaging weather against an enemy or rival, as a tactic of military or economic warfare. Weather modification in warfare has been banned by the United Nations..." This is a weather modification company: http://weathermodification.com/ |

Not sure where comparisons to Katrina are coming from. I haven't seen a hint of such. Still looks like a weak 2 at best. |

Remember Jennifer Ganholm, former Democratic Governor of Michigan? She tweeted this R convention delay due to Isaac:I guess God has ways to shut that whole thing down — Jennifer Granholm (@JenGranholm) August 26, 2012 I guess he changed his mind. |

. The morning show (Radio) people have been laughing for 3 days about the Hurricane going to crash Tampa and the Republican Convention. Everyone has been getting into the act. Of course, they're off Sat. and Sun. Let's see what they say tomorrow. I'm sure they'll drop the whole thing and act like it never happened. . |

Sounds like Landrieu is not ordering an evac. So, if you have a Nissan Leaf and a storm kills power in your area for a week... |

. Democrat Mayor of New Orleans Mitch Landrieu isn't evacuating - so maybe he knows something. Going by the Tracking Map alone, one would wonder why he isn't evacuating. He says they're ready, prepared, battle-hardened, and everything else. I say, better safe than sorry. . |

Now we will see how well the levee enhancements have worked. Unfortunately one day a CAT 5 will hit New Orleans directly and nothing will stop it. Hopefully Issac won't increase in strength too much. Having a city with parts 30 ft below sea level on the gulf is not the smartest step in civilization. |

The last I heard was that Isaac was a tropical storm trying to organize itself into a hurricane. Last night on Fox News Harris Faulkner called this storm a "beast" and with talk like that, the storm could overshadow the convention. Hopefully the Gulf coast will not be too adversely affected, but the following news report makes it sound like the Republicans better not celebrate too much lest people be offended due to the storm. http://www.buffalonews.com/wire-feeds/24-hour-national-news/article1024721.ece "... The storm was a complication, at best, for a party determined to cast the close election as a referendum on President Barack Obama's economic stewardship and Romney as the best hope for jobs and prosperity. The concern was two-fold: that Tampa, hosting thousands of GOP delegates, would get sideswiped by the storm; and that it would be unseemly to engage in days of political celebration if Isaac made a destructive landfall anywhere on U.S. soil. "You can tone down the happy-days-are-here-again a bit," said Rich Galen, a veteran Republican consultant in Washington. "Maybe you don't have the biggest balloon drop in history."" One can already see how the media is playing this. Imagine the split screen on MSNBC or ABC with Romney and the Republicans celebrating as the balloons drop and the other screen showing a rescue from flooding in NO. Most of the areas predicted to be affected, except for NO, are Republican strongholds such as the Florida panhandle and Alabama and all have Republican governors. |

I live in North Central Louisiana, and will get at most a needed rain and a bit of wind. Having been here all my life and seen these things for years - I can still remember Audrey in 1957 - this one will do minimal damage to a few boat docks and maybe sink a sailboat or two. That's it. It's all a giant hype job by The Weather Channel to boost their ratings. Ten years ago, this storm would be on the bottom of page six. |
