Many years ago Mr. F and I bought a newly constructed house. The contractor agreed to install sod...but he let the whole growing season go by without fulfilling the contract. One day, a very angry Mr. F was venting to a new neighbor about the muddy winter we faced. The neighbor just listened and then said in a quiet voice., "If you can get this upset about landscaping, everything else in your life must be pretty good." We found out later that they had lost a child the year before. I think abortion is a bit like that in this national election.I doubt many women count the need to access abortion as the most compelling issue in their life today. If you are up at night worrying about jobs, keeping your house, and paying bills...it's not your primary FEAR. If it is, well, that 's a woman with few other worries. |

A news search will give you over 10,000 hits on Akin within the last 24 hours. That is a distraction, whether temporary or not. With the races tight and the election only 75 days away, I hate seeing time wasted having to go on the defensive. It should not be such a hot topic, but it is and Akin was plain stupid bringing it on. It's sad we have to add that problem to the list of issues to address. |

Again it is not the left or the right. It's Voter Turnout & the Independents in the battleground states. That's the battle for who wins the election. Each day that goes by with Akin dominating the news-cycle is a day lost for Romney. Akin is one of those guys who is just plain hard-headed. I can respect his anti-abortion stance. I disagree with his not wanting to allow a woman to decide if she wants an abortion because she is a sexual victim of rape, incest, or medical condition. But what really gets me is his "legitimate" rape and the idea a woman body shuts down the pregnancy if it was "legitimate" rape. Where has this guy been? We have 7 Billion humans on this planet. It is so obvious it not worth even arguing. He is pathetic. I am all for putting up an alternate candidate to him. I don't want him in the Senate. Even if we lose Missouri it will blunt criticism against GOP being against women. Maybe not enough. Akin won't win. He will not get money from the GOP, but he will be "Right in his own mind". Right without a job and a pariah Edited by Baldo, Aug 23 2012, 01:51 PM.

Election 2012: Missouri Senate Missouri Senate: McCaskill (D) 48%, Akin (R) 38% What a difference one TV interview can make. Embattled Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill has now jumped to a 10-point lead over her Republican challenger, Congressman Todd Akin, in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race. Most Missouri Republicans want Akin to quit the race while most Missouri Democrats want him to stay. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Show Me State finds McCaskill earning 48% support to Akin’s 38%. Nine percent (9%) like some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) ...snipped http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_senate_elections/missouri/election_2012_missouri_senate FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 23, 2012 Akin Campaign Response to Rasmussen Poll St. Louis, MO: The following statement was released by Perry Akin, Campaign Manager for Todd Akin for Senate, in response to the Rasmussen poll released this morning: "The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48% after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is. If she can't break fifty percent after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down. Todd is in this race to win; we will close this gap and win in November with the support of the grassroots in Missouri and across America." http://www.akin.org/updates/akin-campaign-response-rasmussen-poll So Akin drops from a 4 pt lead a week ago to being 10 pts down (14 point swing). Then they put out this "The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48%" That's a 14 pt swing in one week, a disaster! |

Outside of residents in Hillsborough County, NH, who really cares about candidates for the Hillsborough County Sheriff? Well, since Akin made it a topic, Drudge links us on the abortion topic... NH Sheriff Candidate Would Use Deadly Force To Stop Abortions MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) – A man running for sheriff in New Hampshire says if he is elected, he will arrest anyone involved in an abortion in his county.... |

Akin 'hangs in there' despite funders' desertion Though many Republicans have urged him to quit, Congressman Todd Akin continues his pursuit of a U.S. Senate seat. His revised campaign plan includes reaching out to small donors for a few dollars at a time. Abandoned by deep-pocketed national groups, Missouri Rep. Todd Akin is passing a collection plate among his remaining supporters, asking for a few dollars at a time in hopes of sustaining a Senate campaign jeopardized by his remarks about women's bodies and "legitimate rape." http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2012/0823/Akin-hangs-in-there-despite-funders-desertion-video Dumb as a doorknob |

Akin scandal hands Missouri to Obama If the Republican Party needed any more proof that Missouri Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin was poison to all GOP-ers, they've got it in a new Missouri presidential poll just published by Rasmussen Reports. After consistently trailing Mitt Romney in Missouri, President Obama is now beating him. It's by just one point, 47 percent to 46 percent, but it represents a big change from Romney's 50 percent-46 percent lead he had a month ago. Worse for the Republican: Romney has led in Missouri all year--until the Akin "legitimate rape" scandal. The poll could be proof that the scandal has wounded Romney and Republicans and that the Democratic attacks on the Republican is causing voters to reassess Romney. Rasmussen revised his election projection for Missouri, moving it from "lean Romney" to "toss-up." Just yesterday, he reported that Akin is 10 points behind embattled Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill. Akin has stubbornly refused to bow out of the race despite calls from Romney and and many other Republicans. The Democrats have seized on the controversy to paint the GOP as harshly anti-women by being against abortion even the case of rape, despite Romney's history of granting a rape exception. Rasmussen found that Obama's support in the Show-Me state hasn't changed much, and that it's how Republicans view Romney that has shifted after the Akin affair. "Obama's Democratic support in the state remains largely unchanged at 96%, and voters not affiliated with either major party still favor Romney by 20 points," said Rasmussen. "But Republican support in Missouri for the party's likely nominee has fallen from 94% in late July to 85% now." http://washingtonexaminer.com/akin-scandal-hands-missouri-to-obama/article/2505838#.UDfapaDnfTq Congrats to Mr. Legitimate Rape. I would call him a Neanderthal but that would be an insult to Neanderthals who had figured out that sex leads to pregnancy. This guy is a disaster. Who knows what "the shoot themselves in the feet - head - body - gang" will do next? Maybe put out a press release saying Romney only trails by 1% Edited by Baldo, Aug 24 2012, 02:55 PM.

Embattled Akin to hold press conference Friday afternoon Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) will hold a press conference somewhere in St. Louis County at 5:15 Eastern Standard time, likely to offer details on whether he will continue his bid for Missouri's Senate seat. The lawmaker faced mounting calls to step down from his seat following statements he made that in the case of "legitimate rape," pregnancy is rare because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." Republicans nationwide disavowed the comments, and GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney joined a growing chorus of Republican leaders to ask him to resign from the nomination. Republicans have expressed concern that Akin's campaign is now dead in the water, and that his continued candidacy will ruin their chances at what was previously considered a likely win for Republicans. A loss in Missouri could also complicate the party's chances to take the majority in the Senate this year....snipped http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/245387-akin-to-hold-press-conference-this-afternoon Let's hope the fool doesn't double down. |

It's not just about loosing. It is also about winning. If the Republicans can't draft a WINNING candidate, who cares what Akin does? |
