McCaskill has been running a more conservative campaign for about 2 years now, after she realized what Obamacare did to her. It would be a shame to waste the opportunity there. While I suspect this will not help McCaskill pick up many conservative voters, it sure won't help Akin pick up more votes from moderate females. |

Sounds like Akin will withdraw soon. About all he can do. He should have taken lessons from Barry and Joe on how stupid you can be in public and still keep your job... |

Republicans are such wusses. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com GOP senators call on Akin to step aside (CNN) – Sen. Scott Brown, the Massachusetts Republican in a tight battle for re-election, said Monday that Rep. Todd Akin ought to step aside in his bid for U.S. Senate in Missouri after Akin claimed "legitimate rape" rarely results in pregnancy. Sen. Ron Johnson also called on Akin to resign from the GOP nomination. "As a husband and father of two young women, I found Todd Akin's comments about women and rape outrageous, inappropriate and wrong," Brown wrote in a statement released by his campaign. "There is no place in our public discourse for this type of offensive thinking. Not only should he apologize, but I believe Rep. Akin's statement was so far out of bounds that he should resign the nomination for US Senate in Missouri." |

He is on Hannity now. And he has not committed to stepping aside. |

Granted, it was stupid for Akin to talk about such a sensitive topic in the way he did. He has been a Congressman for a long time so one wonders about taking on such a question in such a way. However, I think he did explain himself better after this blew up in his face. I think his talk of "legitimate rape" is a reference to false rape charges which we know about here at Liestoppers. Many Republicans do not want to get into the abortion thing and do appear to be more concerned about their elections and with repect to Coryn, attemping to win the Senate, than what is going on in Missouri. The Democrats/feminists are reminding me of the Sandra Fluke/Rush Limbaugh controversy. Rush Limbaugh turned a negative into a positive. Maybe Huckabee can allow Akin a chance to explain himself on his TV show and bring on Rebecca Kiessling to show that this is a difficult issue. http://www.rebeccakiessling.com/Othersconceivedinrape.html |

Scott Brown pretty much had to say that in his state. As for Akin. What a dumb-ass! You are not going to win an argument with most Americans when it come to abortion and a rape victim that gets pregnant because of it. I don't like abortions, but I am sorry, a rape victim? What kind of an idiot even approaches that? Besides if one goes and gets a SANE Exam after a rape they provide the option of taking an aborticide which prevents pregnancy. Any woman should take it after a rape, but that is her decision, not some would be Senator. By all means have the abortion debate in their Senate race, but man this guy shot himself in both feet over an issue he didn't need to address. |

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/08/20/hannity_urges_akin_to_consider_dropping_out_in_interview_with_him.html Sean makes some good points. Remember Mark Foley? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Foley_congressional_page_incident The scandal led to Foley's resignation from Congress on September 29, 2006. In some quarters, the scandal is believed to have contributed to the Republican Party's loss of control over Congress in the November 7, 2006 election. The media will try and use Akin to achieve the same result. Edited by MikeZPU, Aug 20 2012, 03:41 PM.

Dick Morris just sent out an email stating that Akin had a 9 point lead over his opponent, with emphasis on "had." Talk about blowing it. The news of this whole mess probably put the biggest smile on Obama today. What a gift horse. |

Everything moves so quickly in this media environment but the GOP Leadership wants him out as does Ann Coulter, Dick Morris, and probably every Republican in close race. It was a real shocking statement and frankly I don't want that fool in the US Senate voting on treaties and many of the important issues we face. |

Who would the Republican candidate be if Akin drops out? Do Republicans feel any Republican would be better than Akin. If stupidity is the issue, why did Republicans support Senator Vitter? Vitter's stupidity was to hire a prostitute. Is what Akin said worse than what Vitter did? If Akin does not drop out, the Republicans are going to have to support him as they did Rush Limbaugh when he said something about Fluke he later apologized for. |

That primary race was in the Kansas City news quite often. They were campaigning heavily, so a new candidate should still have a head start on McCaskill. |

Get Todd Akin To Pull Out! By DICK MORRIS Dear Friend, We need to pressure Todd Akin to withdraw from the Senate contest in Missouri. His ridiculous comment that somehow women won't get pregnant from "legitimate rape" (whatever that is?) makes it impossible for him to beat incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill. Before Akin's stupid comment, he had a nine point lead over McCaskill, the most of any Republican insurgent against a Democratic incumbent in the country. But after his comment, he has no chance of winning. That seat could well be the difference between a majority and a minority in the Senate! Please sign this petition to urge Akin to pull out! Since he will depend on a national fundraising base for his campaign, your signature will make a big difference. We'll add your email address to our Alerts list so we can keep you posted on progress and next steps. He has until 5PM on Tuesday to decide! He says he will stay in, but the pressure is building both in and outside of Missouri. http://dickmorris.rallycongress.com/7717/get-todd-akin-to-pull-out/ Edited by Baldo, Aug 20 2012, 08:54 PM.
