No guarantee that she will actually be in court Monday; Monday is often listed as a placeholder for sometime during the following week: Superior MANGUM,CRYSTAL,GAIL 07/16/1978 [DOB] 08/06/2012 [courtroom] 001S AM |

Consider the many ways in which she has received protection from the establishment: she had very considerate treatment by the media--which wouldn't report on her lifestyle and work during the case; and which somehow couldn't find her co-workers or neighbors to interview. she was not prosecuted. she was graduated from NCCU with honors (right...) she was allowed out of charges that she stabbed her boyfriend (and the judge went out of his way to call her a "good mother" from the bench--IMHO to help her avoid any attempt to take her children away from her) [rant: no one ever told the lacrosse mothers that they had been good mothers; they had raised "farm animals"...or their kids must have been molested when they were young, etc.--and there were never any apologies for any of that...] she now has a case which cannot come to trial, and so it won't be allowed to come to trial... what is the secret of her favored treatment??? Can unraveling that mystery be the key to exposing the bedrock of Durham corruption? (If the local media were interested--but they seem to all be engaged in a studied avoidance of any real searching about Mangum... (MOO) At any rate, if Stanback goes along with endlessly delaying her case (IMHO in support of another cover-up), then how is he any less supportive of the establishment than Nifong and Cline were? This case, IMHO, will determine his legacy, as well. Edited by Quasimodo, Aug 5 2012, 09:39 AM.

Right... The article which started the fire ought itself to be the subject of a major journalistic investigation (and perhaps a criminal one, too.) ETA: note the emphasis on "caring mother" again. And who are the people who talked with her about her studies? Was any of that ever confirmed by anyone at NCCU? (Defense lawyers said IIRC that they were unable to confirm what she was studying there--or perhaps, if she was even present there at all. Did she take most or all of her courses online? Can you graduate with honors that way?) Edited by Quasimodo, Aug 5 2012, 09:41 AM.

Hope that someone from liestoppers can attend the court to report what goes on (if anything) and even more important, which members of her posse will show. It will be interesting to see if Woody Vann is really in charge as her defense lawyer or if the retired(?) emergency room doctor lawyer wannabe Sidney Harr is the advisor making decisions for CGM. What I would really like to know is what courses CGM took at college; who taught them; and what kind of grades she received. |

Sorry, you can only get FERPA-protected info released if you are a Duke lacrosse player. (Although, with the present scandals involving North Carolina football players and their sham courses, it just might be possible to bring this up again...Certainly Ammons needs to account for his responses to the case--what did he know about Mangum, and when; what did he tell Brodhead; did the two of them agree on an approach to the case which in any way neglected to point out the absolute innocence of the accused? etc.) |

And I still think it would have been instructive to have known who the ten character witnesses Woody Vann claimed he could bring for her at her 2002 trial would have been... (Who was of sufficient stature that their testimony would have impressed the court?) |

Favored treatment? (Was it the policy of the Herald-Sun not to name her falsely-accused victims? Or to use delicate phrasing to describe her occupation?) |

Speaking of Chancellor Ammons, has there ever been an accounting of the funds raised for her--how much, who administered them, and how they were disbursed? If I donated money to a cause (and one recommended by a university president at that) I'd certainly want to know what happened to the money--was it given to the intended "victim"? Was it withheld? If so, shouldn't it be refunded? Has Ammons ever apologized to donors for asking for the money--did he ever say he was misled? |

WHY she was permitted to get a degree from NCCU--who pushed for it, who arranged it, and who had the clout with NCCU to arrange this--would also go far to exposing Durham's corrupt establishment structure, IMHO. (Which is why it is more than just a matter of casual interest--it is another path of inquiry which can lead to the center of the puzzle. But of course, the Durham media aren't interested...) (MOO) |

Absolutely. If I remember, her degree was in psychology. That entails labs (or at least for all the psych majors I knew it did) and papers. Of course, she would have had to take other classes as well (statistics????). At the time that she was a "student" she was also a single mother and an (ahem) exotic dancer who, as we know, was doing some other gigs on the side. How did she do it all? After all, there were also the appointments for hair weaves, nails, etc. to squeeze in let alone the mundane chores that all mortals must do....pay bills, do laundry, eat, sleep, clean the apartment......and all this with kids!!! Instead of writing a book with what's his name, she should have written an organizational manual - that would have been a best seller since many students would want to know how to do so much WHILE maintaining such high grades. |

It is my belief that Ammons and the NCCU Faculty conspired to (a) have Mangum graduate and (b) have her graduate with honors primarily to help bolster and support the metanarrative, and also to help with the case, if either the criminal trial or a Civil Suit made it to court. The strategy: vilify the accused (the LAX players) and beatify (raise to sainthood) the accused, using the media as whole-hearted accomplices. Was Ammons dumb enough to actually believe Mangum's story? Absolutely. Did he really care if Mangum was telling the truth or not? Of course not. Was Ammons willing to bend the rules for Mangum, well beyond the point of breaking, to score political points? Of course. Edited by MikeZPU, Aug 5 2012, 07:45 PM.

We stand waiting with bated breath on what will happen now? Another continuance? Martians landing outside the Durham Courthouse? Nifong strutting into the courtroom announcing his love for Crystal. Just another Day in Durham with their Poster Girl! |

And one would like to know how the teachers (if there were any) grade their students. Everyone gets an A? 95% of every class does A work? |

It would be interesting to see WHAT courses she took; WHAT grades she received; and WHAT the profs she had had to say about the work that she did. I wonder WHAT her attendance record was like as well. I also wonder just how (given her condition during the time that the hoax played out) many courses she was taking (full load? did she have any incompletes?) especially given the fact that she was also, as we know, pregnant. As I said, she was one BUSY woman - obviously she possesses organizational talents that she should market (note to Vince and Sidney). |
