The U.K. is apparently going to really start using all of those cameras they have installed everywhere. I guess they are going to read your vehicle plates and check to see if your insurance is up to date. If it isn't, you won't be able to fill up your tank until your info has been recorded for enforcement. I wonder if it will apply to electric vehicles as well? I presume they will expand it to your registration, and any taxes you might have forgotten to pay, or anything else they can think of. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/cameras-u-k-gas-stations-block-uninsured-drivers-155857252.html |

No fuel to those that don't have insurance today. No fuel to those the government doesn't want to have fuel tomorrow. But I well say it is nice that governments trying to do something about uninsured drivers. Think something like they do for unpaid parking tickets on shows like "Parking Wars" might be better. They have vans now with cameras that automatically scan tags for too many tickets and if they get a hit they boot the car and tow it away. It would be nice if they could also do something about unlicensed drivers. |

Imagine that, the government TRACKING you. Who'd of thunk it??? ...and it has progressed to the point in which private enterprize is taken over by Big Brother to do the policing actions necessary to enforce the mandated insurance coverage for vehicles. I musr assume the justification is somehow broght about through the cost savings for those that are insured ....maybe rate reductions on their policies for decreased exposure to claims against their Uninsured Motorist coverage. Blocking uninsured motorists would never happen here because our government would not be able to figure out a way it wouldn't affect minorities. |

They'd do it the same way it was done in Obamacare ...subsidize the class that cannot afford it (I say that without putting a color or ethnic class on that group). To step a degree or two out on the limb, the same reasoning used to require you to have insurance on a vehicle using public roads might be also used to demand you to have personal liability coverage for tripping someone passing you on the public sidewalk (or two people bumping while riding their bicycles on the new trails they hope to build with our DOT taxes, all leading to the high-speed trains we'll have). Since I know many in travel on the public right-of-ways do not have insurance, I insure myself to avoid the risk of loss there. With the laws requiring insurance, I see a need to enforce them, but would NEVER see a need to enlist civilian forces to accomplish that. Would the camera crew and civilian business owners (gas stations) also detain you from walking away from your gas-less vehicle because you did not have liability coverage for an accident where you tripped someone on the sidewalk?
