. Calling Sheriff Joe, Calling Sheriff Joe! D.C. lost track of Stimulus Money and jobs in the District, however, despite a huge influx of $885 Million of Stimulus money, Unemployment rose in the District! From the Washington Times: "Despite receiving more than $885 million in federal economic stimulus funds since 2009, the D.C. government — whose residents face one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation — cannot say how many jobs it actually created for those who live in the District. Most of the money has been spent, and data suggest that overall regional job growth did occur as a result of the massive infusion of capital. But a review by The Washington Times of figures provided by D.C. officials shows that the city spent hundreds of millions of dollars without being able to demonstrate any significant improvement in the city’s jobs outlook. If anything, the employment picture has worsened in the District. At the end of 2011, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the city’s unemployment rate was 10.4 percent, ahead of only three states: Nevada (12.6 percent), California (11.1 percent) and Rhode Island (10.8 percent)." http://p.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/mar/7/dc-has-no-count-of-jobs-from-stimulus/ . Where's Sheriff Joe Biden? Just the Two of Us An audit finds that part of an $11 Million dollar stimulus grant to the city of Detroit actually only helped two people. The Detroit News reports the money was supposed to provide low-income job seekers with business attire for interviews. The goal was helping 400 people over the course of a year. Instead it served just two people reportedly due to a lack of oversight. http://nation.foxnews.com/tax-dollars/2012/03/07/your-tax-dollars-hard-work-11-million-spent-clothe-two-job-seekers-detroit . http://michellemalkin.com/2012/03/07/detroit-grant-job-seekers/ As rdbrewer pointed out at Ace of Spades, assuming the entire $11 million was earmarked for the job seeker “service center,” even if they met their goal of helping clothe 400 people in business attire, that would have still worked out to $27,500 per person. Where did they plan on taking these people to shop? Oscar de la Renta? |

It was to be expected. Obama, Bite-it. Pelosi, & Reid just pulled a figure out of their magical places and Congress passed it. Remember Congress did not hold Appropriations Hearings on the Stimulus(American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009). The Bill was written by Pelosi Committee Chairs, mainly their their Staff. This was one of the largest appropriations ever. Obama was inaugurated on Jan 20, 2009. He signed the bill on February 17, 2009. I consider its passage one of the great malfeasances of Presidential & Congressional History, Again Pelosi & her committees did not hold appropriations hearings. 800 Billion in blank checks with some tax relief, but even that was pork pork pork. I can't believe the apathy over what they did. It caused much damage to our future. Edited by Baldo, Mar 8 2012, 12:26 AM.
