Qurans Burned with Trash

U.S. Gen. John Allen, the top commander in Afghanistan, apologized and ordered an investigation into the incident, which he was "not intentional in any way."

Ahmad Zaki Zahed, chief of the provincial council, said U.S. military officials took him to a burn pit on the base where 60 to 70 books, including Qurans, were recovered. The books were used by detainees once incarcerated at the base, he said.

"Some were all burned. Some were half-burned," Zahed said, adding that he did not know exactly how many Qurans, the Muslim holy book, had been burned.

Zahed said five Afghans working at the pit told him that the religious books were in the garbage that two soldiers with the U.S.-led coalition transported to the pit in a truck late Monday night. When they realized the books were in the trash, the laborers worked to recover them, he said.

NATO reported Thursday that the two service members were killed by a man dressed as an Afghan soldier in eastern Afghanistan.

Mohammad Hassan, a local Afghan leader in Nangarhar province, says the shooting occurred outside an American base in the province during a riot against the Quran burnings. He says the gunman was an Afghan soldier.

President Barack Obama has apologized for the burning of Qurans and other religious texts earlier this week at Bagram Air Field, north of Kabul. The incident has sparked violent demonstrations across the Muslim nation.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Afghan president's office says it has received a letter from President Barack Obama formally apologizing for the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.

The statement from President Hamid Karzai's office says the U.S. ambassador delivered the letter on Thursday.

In the letter, which is quoted in the statement, Obama expresses his "deep regret for the reported incident" and offers his "sincere apologies."

According to the statement, Obama wrote: "The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible

Why didn't Gen. Allen say "These religious materials had already been damaged and defaced and we were disposing of them as Islamic allow provides - by burning them in a respectful manner. The same way we dispose of our old flags and other revered materials."

The answer to your questions is very simple.

We have people in high positions who are incapable of thinking on their feet.

It seems to be the American way these days to bow down and apologize for everything.

American way or 0bama way? Generals hate to cross presidents, for obvious reasons. And at the top positions, they are effectively appointed by the President. At which point, various apples do not fall far from the rotting tree... After all, Zer0 does not need a pretext to apologize to every enemy of this country he can find!

Owebama has given them the caricature of a weak and groveling West.

They only understand strength and force. They laugh at his apologies and his constant rush to appeasement.

Like one of the candidates said at the debate, it's better to be an enemy of the USA than an ally with Obama in office (think it was Romney).

We have such wimp leadership.

Meanwhile

Washington DC - The Saudi government burns and desecrates hundreds of bibles its security forces confiscate after raids on Christian expatriates worshiping privately or at border crossings.

As a matter of official policy, the government either incinerates or dumps bibles, crosses and other Christian paraphernalia.

Hundreds of Christian worshipers are arrested every year by Saudi police in raids on their private gatherings. Bibles, crosses and printed materials are confiscated and later burnt or dumped into trash. Bibles and other Christian paraphernalia found with travelers into the country are confiscated and destroyed....snipped

Editorial note: Kira Davis (from YouTube link above) states that these Qurans were provided by our taxpayers. If true, and these materials were purchased by the US Military for use by the detainees, which seems very likely, then I have incorrectly titled this thread. It should be "I'm Sorry We Burned OUR Book". And, since they were actually property of the US Government, they can be disposed of in any way we like.

The crisis escalates:
Two more Americans have been killed . . . in a "secure" location
AP reports Gunman Kills 2 American Advisors

Quote:

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was retaliation for the Quran burnings, and the NATO commander recalled all international military personnel working in Afghan ministries in the capital.

. . .
Two Afghan officials said the ministry shooting did not involve any Afghans. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing a NATO incident. One of the officials noted that the shooting occurred inside a secure room at the ministry that Afghan staff do not have access to.

I urge everyone to read

http://s1.zetaboards.com/Liestoppers_meeting/single/?p=624572&t=4680713

While the upset over the burning of Korans is not the USA's fault, what the "on the ground conditions" are, is not being told us.

The Obama Administration needs to be held accountable for what is happening in Afghanistan with our military.

I also find the overuse of special forces in Afghanistan, the increasing death of them, the publicizing of Seal Teams 6, the use of actual special forces in movies, the diversity program, and the upcoming movie of Obama, Seals Team 6 and Bin Laden.... disturbing.

Remember these are our best of the best. Obama is using them for political motives.
