They, being the Obama-bot apologists, can misdirect all they want. I saw it with a Washington Post reporter who said fuel prices always go up in Feb. It was as to explain away this dramatic rise in gasoline price.

It is a complex problem, but at its very heart is simply the cost of crude oil on the world-wide exchange. As I pointed out the really big oil companies are not the Seven Sisters anymore but rather sovereign owned companies. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, Venezuela, etc are the leaders of the pack. The foreign policy of the US plays an important role, and we know how sucessful he has been.

Obamabots like to point out the moderate increase in drilling in the USA. Truthfully they had nothing to do with it. Those increases mostly came about because of deals worked out during the Bush Administration. The current administration has dragged their feet and mostly opposed any real drilling increase. It take years to gear up. We have wasted four years on this community organizer and we will pay dearly for

I have worked in an adjacent field and witnessed first hand the magnitude & complexity of the oil industry. Very few outside the industry can appreciate the professionalism, expertize, and scale of the industry. Their scientists, engineers, and geologists are simply the best. The amount of capital it takes is overwhelming. Planning takes years before a field can come into production.

I find Obama a mental midget when it comes to understanding energy production, particularly the MAGNITUDE of it. His speech on algae is simply ignorant. He is someone who used to go to the corner and fill his tank up and he doesn't even have to do that anymore.. He doesn't have a clue about subjects like energy density, thermodynamics, geology. fluid mechanics, photosynthesis, economics, business management, and the myriad of scientific knowledge it takes to create fuel. That's OK, I don't expect him to. Few have that capability and I don't count myself as one. But I do know enough that we elected an utterly incompetent and unqualified man to run the world's largest economy and he is a effing failure at it.

We are rudderless, shovel-less, and just plain sh*t out of luck with him as President.

Right now we need a real President, but whomever we elect I suggest we appoint a competent Secretary of Energy & dump that Chu in the Solyndra scrap yard

Also, don't forget that the Fed via Bernanke has been pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into banks and other entities to shore up their balance sheets, and oil worldwide is denominated in dollars. That means that while the Fed debases the dollar, commodities, including oil, go up in price, as they are quite sensitive to changes in the value of money.

:bill:
"Oil Won't Stop Until The Economy Breaks"

"[Oil] is up 16%, more than any of the indices. It's a big problem for the rest of the world - central bank easing and liquidity providing presents a lot of problems for the average consumer here but also for emerging markets around the world.”

“The one market it really helps is the Saudi market. We have 15% of our capital in the Saudi market - only about 1% is held by foreigners. It should be opening up this year. So we think unfortunately QE3, which is now being pursued in Europe and Japan, essentially in the U.S. with other programs, has negative feedback loops. And oil we think is the one. Gold goes up 10%, 20%, 50%, it doesn't cause any problems with people the way banking is done these days, but oil does… I don't think oil is going to stop until the economy breaks which is a real risk."

"The average consumer isn’t doing well. Their income has been flat for almost ten years, but their costs keep rising. They had a benefit with natural gas being cheaper this year, but the oil price is now breaking out and it's breaking out because of all the liquidity in the world. The oil price is making new highs in euros and pounds and it may soon in dollars. That's a big problem."

If you took their Silly and Stupid argument - that Obama is powerless and this is caused by Tension in the MiddleEast - how hard was it to predict Tension in the MiddleEast?

Why is Obama out there singing, Skiing, and fighting for $16.00 a month for some, when he could've been coming up with a Contingency - or a real plan to keep Oil costs down?

...and any speculating what the price will be over the next year or two, short-term, have absolutely no reason to think production will be stable in the mideast.

If the tensions in the Mideast is the problem, than 0bama isn't blameless there either. The Mideast was safer place to be when Bush was in office. The $hit is hitting the fan under 0bama.

But 0bama can blame whoever he wants. Everyone knows his energy plan consist of algae and people putting enough air in their tires. 0bama doesn't want cheaper energy prices. His hiring of Salazar and Chu shows that. He just doesn't want them to go up too fast, especially when he up for reelection.

It matches the air-heads in the Administration who think you can replace fossil fuels with algae, ethanol, and solar "magic" in a short amount of time.

My goodness the voters bought a big pile of doo-doo in 2008 and unfortunately we will all pay for it for longer than Obama is in office.

To re-state my position. I am not opposed to Solar Energy, Ethanol, Algae fuel production at all. I just want the public to understand the reality of the problem and the magnitude of the production needed to replace fossil fuels. It isn't going to happen any decade soon.

Natural gas is our most immediate solution to using a fuel source for transportation that can be implemented in a short amount of time. It takes no new technology & the USA has the most in the world.

We must start building Nuclear Power Plants again. Without those existing & aging plants the USA we would be suffering from power shortages.

The USA is the world's largest producer of nuclear power, accounting for more than 30% of worldwide nuclear generation of electricity.

The country's 104 nuclear reactors produced 807 billion kWh in 2010, over 20% of total electrical output.

I suspect we'll find out that Algae is like a crop - and droughts will ravage prices, if it was to ever come to fruition.

Right now, it depends on Petroleum products and lots of water to generate.

ok, Hollywood is "Green", right?

let's have all the Hollywood 1%-ers with estate swimming pools stop chlorinating them. The harvesting truck can come around weekly.

Yeah, maybe at third third or fourth homes.

Algae takes SIX TIMES more energy to produce than Land Plants - and increases Greenhouse Gases significantly more.

He's got 250 days to pull the Wool - and then he can drop the charade.

Prices rise above $5 for a gallon of premium gas at a Shell station at Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, California February 21, 2012. Wholesale gasoline traded 13 cents higher in the Los Angeles market on Tuesday due to a Friday fire that idled BP Plc's Cherry Point, Washington, refinery.
