By Lachlan Markay Created May 31 2011 - 7:27pm Rep. Weiner in 2009: 'Cyber attacks...are real and demand immediate action' Two years - nearly to the day - before Rep. Anthony Weiner's Memorial Day weekend was thrown into turmoil by the burgeoning "Weinergate" scandal, the New York Democrat offered some strong words on cyber-security that now carry quite a bit of irony. For those unfamiliar with the basics of the Weinergate scandal, a photo of a male erection was sent on Friday from Weiner's verified Twitter account to a 21-year-old Washington State coed. For a quick rundown of the full timeline as of Tuesday morning, check out Jonah Goldberg's post on the topic. Weiner, who has refused to initiate an official investigation into what he claims was a criminal "hack" (he later dubbed it a "prank") into his Twitter account, insisted in May 2009 that "Cyber attacks…are real and demand immediate action." But he warned against giving a government agency too much power, and called for a "balanced approach" to cyber security. The New York Daily News reported the Congressman's statement thusly: Whoa, there, Mr. President: Let's be careful with giving the NSA more power, Rep. Anthony Weiner warned today. That's in response to President Obama's move to appoint a cyber-security czar (the plan is after the jump) who Weiner doesn't want to give up too much civilian control while protecting the country's information grid. "Cyber attacks -- both foreign and domestic -- are real and demand immediate action," Weiner said. "But we need a balanced approach. It is important that we don't give too much authority to a government agency that collects information and rarely shares it." Weiner's call to act on cyber threats "immediate[ly]" seems all the more ironic given his hesitancy to involve law enforcement in the scandal that has dominated headlines since the tweet in question was sent on Friday evening. One congressman, Republican Cliff Stearns of Florida, is even calling for an investigation into the alleged "hacking," citing the same national security concerns to which Weiner paid lip service two years ago. The Daily Caller reported Tuesday: “Although this particular incident is a matter for law enforcement, it clearly indicates that hacking is a serious problem and as Chairman it would be appropriate for the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to examine the issue of cybersecurity to protect our privacy and to ensure our national security,” Stearns said in an email to The Daily Caller. But previous statements notwithstanding, Weiner was reluctant to involve law enforcement in what, if true, would amount to a fairly serious breach of Congress's digital security. Even the congressman's defenders must admit: it doesn't look good. |

. Here's a link to an article stating essentially what Abb posted. Congressman calls for a probe of Weiner's hacking allegations. http://nation.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/31/congressman-wants-weiner-probe . |

The case should leave quite a record in the digital events ...if anyone is looking for it. |

The Democrats would be reaming out any Republican with half an allegation of sending lewd material over the internet or over twitter. With Democrats, its a badge of honor, sorta like the CLINTON NOBEL PIECE PRIZE. |

He sure sounds guilty of sending the photo. It sounds like he has been instructed in how to respond to reporters questions by giving non answers and wanting to move on. MSM is covering this and his non-answers are really pitiful. He will probably resign soon. |

He will probably resign soon. I seriously doubt that. He will not answer questions, the MSM will stop asking them, and we'd need to see an investigation by someone with the authority to obtain records. Lets hope the MSM proves I'm incorrect. |

To everyone posting here, Wiener is a democrat, they don't care, according to them, Weiner was either setup or whatever he did was okay. It all boils down to politics, nothing more. Weiner could pose nude and post it and the libs in congress and the media could care less. If Weiner actually did post this, he is considered a hero by the left in this country. Only in America can this happen, if the media supports you, then you get away with murder. He is a lefty and can do whatever he wants. John Boehner is the "Speaker of the House" and he won't even stand up to Weiner, the leadership in the GOP are absolute losers in my book. |

. I ventured to the Left sites - and they wanted the guy's head that did screen captures with others - I mean they were furious. They saw it as he set up Weiner, well Death Threats were soon headed the way of the individual that captured events - and that was predictable after reading the Rage and seeing it building. Now, how can someone stand by, what kind of person could stand by and let that happen to someone else when they knew the Guilty party? Disgusting. . |

Weiner seems to be a closet perv if you ask me. It is telling that he seeks out porn stars and high school girls. Maybe to satisfy a need based on his own inadequacies? It is the behavior expected from an adolescent boy...not a 45 year old member of Congress. It's not normal for a grown man to interact with high school girls in this manner. It is definitely not normal for a married man to have a posse of teenaged girls, even if it is on the web. I'm no prude, but do believe in appropriate behavior and his banter with these girls is just not appropriate. |

. Here, here. Excellent. I say if you couple this with him shouting and angrily pointing and speaking threateningly on the house floor - one gets a better idea of the man. If you put a guy like this, that feels entitled like he does, in charge of a budget or a committee - or a staff - watch out. Watch the money, watch the girls and watch the Pearls - this guy is a train-wreck waiting to happen. . |

. Weiner looks like he believes he can win by simply avoiding the subject for a little while - and it will age out. In such case, I believe the only acceptable outcome will be for him to accompany Dick Cheney on a Hunting Trip. . |

O'Reilly said last night on his show that he will be insisting that the FBI investigate. We'll see if he follows through. |

John Edwards tried to do the same thing until the Star set a trap for him. The rest is history. Someone will set the trap. |
