Weiner can't afford to quit the DC day job

By CHUCK BENNETT

Even if scandal-stained Rep. Anthony Weiner didn't want to stay in office, he needs to stay in office.

Unlike many of his peers in the House, Weiner doesn't have a business or even a law degree to fall back on.

Weiner, 46, took home $156,117 in 2010, according to his federal tax returns released by his staff.

His humiliated wife, Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, earned $154,000 in 2009, federal records show.

He owes between $10,000 and $15,000 on his American Express card, according to his most recent financial-disclosure forms.

If he steps down, he could grovel to cable TV execs for talking-head "analyst" gigs that hopefully pay more than the $825 he gets for appearing on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."

But with Weiner's reputation in ruins, other lucrative jobs may be hard to get.

"He would most likely have to go to friends in the business sector, but he doesn't have a financial background," said political consultant Joseph Mercurio.

Weiner doesn't sound like he's qualified to do much more than he presently does!

Nice Comment on that NY Post article

No business degree...no law degree...no financial background....What a perfect resume for a US Congressman trying to tell us how we should live our lives!

This was the jerk who claimed

“I wrote the bill,” Rep. Anthony Weiner said Monday at a town hall, referring to his party’s landmark reform of the nation’s health care system. “The bill and I are one.”

Branding is in order here. Weiner & the Healthcare Bill.

I saw it reported somewhere that he was offered a $50,000 / year contract as a spokeman for some online dating service company ...though I did not check to see if it was humor or fact.

"No business degree...no law degree...no financial background...."

Factor that in with who he married and it's hard to believe he is Jewish.

He is not going anywhere..it is obvious from his arrogant demeanor when interviewed by the NYPost. He is past the "Oh shit" mode and now it is apparent he could care less what the rest of the country thinks of him.

The only way he might be pressured into resigning is if a video comes forward of him having sex with underaged boys or girls. Even then it is iffy. A sad commentary on our society (or the elite society which runs this nation).

The elite suffer no consequences based on what is right or wrong. Their consequences are doled out based on the whims, needs and agendas of their peers.

Matthews: Weiner in Trouble Because His Behavior Offends 'Culturally Backward' Christian Conservatives

===========
On Thursday's Hardball, Chris Matthews determined that Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner could be in danger of being forced out of Congress by Blue Dog Dems who face uphill battles in red states because, as he put it, "people in the rural areas of this country who are Christian conservative culturally - you can say backward if you want...don't like this kind of stuff."

During a discussion about Weiner's chances of survival, after being caught sending lewd pictures to women via Twitter, the MSNBCer claimed the liberal congressman didn't have to worry about his, according to Matthews, culturally superior constituents in New York - the "56 percent in Brooklyn and Queens" who "can live with this guy." Instead he had to be concerned with his Democratic colleagues fearful about re-election in the "conservative culturally part of the country."

The following excerpt was aired on the June 9 edition of Hardball:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: If you're a Blue Dog Democrat from a conservative culturally part of the country, where you're fighting out every election with two or three points to spare, if you're a -- if you're are [Jim] Matheson from Utah or you're from Oklahoma and you're a [Dan] Boren -- and he's leaving Congress - your life's getting difficult enough defending the East Coast and the left coast Democratic Party. They're too far left. Look at what happened in Arkansas last year. It's getting very, very hard to defend the behavior, politically, of the party. Now you throw on top of that immoral behavior, indiscrete behavior, embarrassing behavior, gross behavior like this, and you still have him in your midst. And that's my question to you. If you're Steny Hoyer, who does speak for the Blue Dogs, if you're Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker, who has to deal with them, don't you have to deal with the fact - you're losing any chance of getting back a 218 majority?

I want you to pick this up, Ben. This is, to me, the stakes here. If he stays, they never get the leadership back. They never get the Speakership back because the people in the rural areas of this country who are Christian conservative culturally - you can say backward if you want - but they don't like this kind of stuff at all. They're not part of that 56 percent in Brooklyn and Queens who say, "okay, we can live with this guy." Your thoughts, Ben? Isn't that the cutting edge of this?

Parts unknown

Chris Matthews got out of the gate early.

That is part one of the rehabilitation of Anthony Weiner.

Isn't it funny, everyone on TV is saying this is about an affair - and about sex - when, in truth, he claimed publicly that there was a crime, a crime against him essentially.

Not only did he falsely claim a crime, but he put the Federal resources of a Congressmen behind forming a conspiracy and lying to the Press and to authorities. I'm sure he didn't have his Staff tell the little women, now if the Police ask, you tell the Truth. He didn't, because he was obfuscating the truth and obstructing the collection of the truth in the matter.

He has the instincts of a sexual predator -- and how can the DEM party stand against Sexual harassment and power inequities and support Anthony Weiner? How about NBC?

Barbara Walters said his wife may be at fault for traveling too much. Chris Matthews said his wife may have known about the women all along. This is just premature rehabilitation - but it's coming, down the road.

Arrogant bastard.

But what do I know? I am a backwards conservative from rural America. Matthews can ESAD as far as I am concerned. I am beginning to fully comprehend the contempt he and his ilk have for us.

Bloomberg Knew The Dirt On Weiner In 2009, And Used It To Force Him Out Of The Mayoral Race

Ricky Kreitner | Jun. 10, 2011, 11:46 AM

Michael Bloomberg forced Anthony Weiner out of the 2009 mayoral race—before he'd even decided to run—by convincing the Queens congressman the mayor's re-election campaign had more dirt on him than it actually did, Harry Siegel of the Village Voice reports.

While the Bloomberg campaign did not have the same sexts and tweets that leaked onto the Internet in recent days -- and which occurred in the past year -- the mayor's team poured resources into gathering dirt. Whatever Bloomberg actually found, Weiner was nervous enough about what the mayor potentially knew that he opted not to run.

A New York Post story from March 2009, which exposed the illegal campaign contributions Weiner had received from sexy foreign models, probably gave the congressman even more reason to worry.

Siegel reports that the Bloomberg campaign orchestrated an aggressive effort of intimidation, scare tactics, zip-code-specific digital ads, and, essentially, stalking, in order to convince Weiner not to challenge the mayor's bid for a third term.

"We didn't have as much at the time he dropped out as he thought we had," the campaign official said, stressing that the campaign's aggressive early shots at Weiner and other hardball tactics were meant to give the Congressman a sense of just how much damage the mayor, with his effectively unlimited resources, could do if he didn't back out of the race he'd been widely expected to enter.

I agree with Agatha and others here. Weiner is not going anywhere.

He's too egotistical. Not only does he not have anything to fall back on job-wise,
his whole schtick - his whole personna - derives from the "importance" of being a
member of the U.S. Congress.

He will not do the right thing here. He will have to be dragged out kicking
and screaming, and that's not going to happen.

Rush says it's beneficial to the Republicans if he sticks it out.

Looks to me like Weiner planned to live off the government dole for life, congress, then Mayor of NYC, then onto the Oval office and retirement. I don't believe this is what the founding fathers intended for our elected officials? He had a plan.

Perhaps Weiner wants to stay in Congress because he feels that if he broke the law he won't be prosecuted. They should send a message, build a criminal case against him, issue an arrest warrant for a felony, and arrest him on the house floor.
