If you are wondering why some folks are starting to question whether a college education is worth the cost, the video below goes a long way towards explaining it. Recently, the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) sponsored two college courses: Introduction to Labor Studies and Labor Politics and Society, to be taught simultaneously through a video conference between to two campuses.

The Professors are Judy Ancel, Director of Labor Studies at UMKC and Don Giljum, business manager for the International Union of Operating Engineers at Ameren UE in St. Louis. (Bonus: he is a member of the Communist Party.)

In the class, the Professors not only advocate the occasional need for violence and industrial sabotage, they outline specific tactics that can be used. As one of our colleagues pointed out, its the matter-of-factness of it all that is so disturbing.

KC university supports lecturer in video flap
Posted: 1:20 p.m. yesterday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — University of Missouri-Kansas City officials say they're standing behind a labor studies professor whose lecture comments about union agitation tactics have created an Internet stir among conservative commentators.

Video clips on conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart's Big Government website show professor Judy Ancel seemingly endorsing violence as a union tactic during a recent class. UMKC Provost Gail Hackett pledged support for the academic freedom of the school's professors and said videos posted on Breitbart's site rely on "selective editing" and are presented in "an inaccurate and distorted manner."

A campus review of 18 hours of unedited video continues, Hackett said in a statement released late Thursday.

Breitbart was at the center of two video controversies in recent years — one that led to the firing of a U.S. Agriculture Department employee over an edited video of what appeared to be a racist remark, and another that embarrassed the community group ACORN when workers were shown counseling actors posing as a prostitute and pimp.

In the Kansas City video incident, Ancel says she was paraphrasing a statement made in a documentary shown in class about the 1968 Memphis garbage workers' strike and Martin Luther King's assassination.

Step back a bit, Joan, and ask what effect those shirts would have here if George Bush rather than Margaret Thatcher were the target.. Do you think anyone whose decency needle still moves off zero would not be offended by such stuff?. And of those who'd applaud such mean-spirited garbage, would anything short of spending the wee hours with Marley's ghost bring them back into the human family?

Thatcher's friends and supporters just received a boost—if only by being reminded of just what kind of people she had the courage and fortitude to take on.

I guess if you take this course with AA studies, Urban Studies, Women studies and throw in a little society studies, you can get a BA in BS and where do you find a job, other then in education?
