Danowski Named ACC Coach of the Year
04/21/2011 - Duke Sports Information
DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski headlines the Blue Devil selections for the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference annual awards recipients as the ACC Coach of the Year. Junior CJ Costabile and freshman Jordan Wolf represented Duke on the All-ACC team. Danowski earns his second career ACC Coach of the Year award, while Costabile and Wolf garner their first All-ACC honors.
Danowski, in his fifth season as the leader at Duke, led the Blue Devils to their ninth regular season title and fifth since 2005 with a flawless 3-0 mark against conference foes. Danowski ranks among the best Division I lacrosse coaches in history with a 295-156 (.654) overall record and an impressive 76-17 (.817) record at Duke.
The 2007 ACC Coach of the Year, Danowski led the Blue Devils to the pinnacle of Division I lacrosse capturing the 2010 NCAA Championship with a 5-4 overtime win over Notre Dame. In his four previous seasons with the Blue Devils, the longtime coach led Duke to championship weekend every year and to the title game in 2007 and 2010. A winner of nearly 84 percent of his games at Duke, the individual awards Blue Devil players have garnered is equally impressive. In only four seasons, Danowski helped mentor 26 All-America selections, 13 All-ACC choices, two Tewaaraton Trophy winners, two USILA Attackman of the Year award recipients, a USILA defenseman of the year, and six USILA Scholar All-America picks.
Duke is currently ranked sixth in the latest polls and sports a 10-4 overall record. Under Danowski's watch, the Blue Devils own the third-ranked scoring offense as well as Division I's longest current home win streak.

Duke heads into the ACC Tournament as the top seed and will take on No. 4 seed Virginia on Friday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to the championship game on Sunday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m

With the success of the team he is coaching this year, he should get some national honors if he does anything in the NCAA tournament.
