Such sad news. My condolences to his family.

I hope someone is taking good care of CGMs 3 kids. They will need a lot of love and support through this.

This really is sad because it was preventable. Yet, remember that five years ago, the Duke faculty and administration, not to mention the major U.S. media outlets, were elevating Crystal Mangum to sainthood.

I cannot help but wonder had the police and the authorities at Duke not decided to go with Crystal's obvious lies, would Mr. Daye be alive tonight?

It was a big scam, and all of Official Durham was in on it. The NAACP, North Carolina Central (which would give her a degree), Duke University, all branches of Durham government, and every Marxist wacko that makes a home in the Triangle all got together to support Crystal's lies. In the end, a man is dead and lives are ruined.

It really is the ideology, stupid.

Duke lacrosse rape accuser faces more charges
The Associated Press
Posted: 04/13/2011 08:21:25 PM PDT

DURHAM, N.C.—A man who police say was stabbed by a woman who falsely accused Duke lacrosse players of rape has died.
Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez Jr. told The Herald-Sun of Durham on Wednesday that 46-year-old Reginald Daye had died. According to WRAL and the newspaper, Daye had been taken to Duke University Hospital after being stabbed with a kitchen knife on April 3.

Crystal Mangum is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and has been jailed since the stabbing. It was not immediately clear where or how Daye died.

Durham police didn't immediately return messages from The Associated Press.

The police chief told the newspaper that additional charges against Mangum are possible.

Jail officials didn't know if the 32-year-old Mangum had an attorney

I think it's time to publish our Listening Statement and put it in a prominent place on the site so that the Durham lurkers will see that we have not forgotten the call to arms in the spring of 06 to take to the streets and take back the night. I hope the 88 are listening. This has to be an antacid moment for Brodhead.
Brodhead thought for a while that all he had to worry about was cancer patients and their families being upset at being mistreated by Potti's nefarious methods. Now he has the charge of "constructive fraud" in one case and "obstruction of justice" in another, along with DISCOVERY. No news about progress in Van de Velde's case, but it is inching along and as long as it is reinstated it's a threat. Fact Checker is messing up Brodhead's China venture instead of letting him enjoy lavishing millions there for his great photo op. Joan is energized to the point that we will have to have a special emoticon of an Avenging Angel to go with the red rose. Maggief and many others are back in action. My "Troth and Consequences" continues to be hit more than anything else on my blog, 54 hits today, if you can believe it. Who? Why? And now Crystal just may be accused of murder, just when everyone at LieStoppers is re-reading Brodhead's hapless words from April 2006. I don't think antacid will help Brodhead much. Well, Rusty Dog made the great comment on Crystal: Practice makes perfect. I will repeat my inferior comment but apply it to Brodhead: It's almost as if actions have consequences.

How did Daye meet her? Why did he let her move in with him, after his nephew warned him? What kind of HOLD does Mangum exert on men, that robs them of their senses? Or is it just the same old ageless story?

I am sorry for Daye's family. And I am sorry because he will not get a chance to come to his senses and RUN from the famous Mangum Web of Destruction. But I hope that his death proves to be a BIG warning to young and old men alike, and that there are some mothers in DUrham tonight who are LECTURING their sons on the dangers of the sorts of Mangum..... Tyler Perry style!

NOW I HAVE HEARD EVERYTHING: I was in francesca's tonight having my occasional "why try to get healthy if you can't have a milkshake once in a while" milkshake. I overheard someone say, "She didn't kill him; she just stabbed him. He died at Duke. Maybe Duke killed him. Wouldn't be the first time." I sewanee.

Not surprising. Here is a post I made tonight when I heard the family took him off life support.

Watch Mangum's supporters blame the family for the death.

You had to know Crystal's supporters would find someone to blame other than Crystal for this mans death.

Boy Duke is really loved in the community when their first thought is the stabbing didn't kill him, the Hospital did.

10:08 PM ET

Maybe now the great state of NC will finally be shamed into doing something for Crystal's 3 children.

I cannot imagine the trauma that they have experienced in their young lives.

Can some of our NC hooligans please contact the proper authorities, let them know what has happened so that they can't use the excuse of "We didn't know."

Everyone of us needs to include those kids in our prayers.

Well, he did take a long time to die. And (it seems) he was able to walk and talk for a while after the incident... In the modern world, such a sequence of events is somewhat unusual, with antibiotics and such. Not really rare, and not necessarily a result of negligence and/or stupidity - but a little unusual. Given various things we know about this hospital (and other things I know about other university hospitals!), I will believe just about anything... as long as it does not involve DELIBERATELY killing or harming this guy.

In the midst of our spate of triumphalism, there is genuine pain and sorrow. Our worst nightmare just materialized at the expense of a human life. To the left Reginald Daye is collateral damage, a sacrifice to the goddess of black womanhood, who got an A in a hard course, and who new to dancing. To the 88, he is collateral damage to the race, class, gender trope through which their world is understood. It does not matter that she falsely accused three young men of offenses which, if convicted, would essentially have ended their lives. The narrative was more important than stinking middle class facts. Facts in a conventional sense are just an artifact to keep poor black women like Crystal oppressed. To Roy Cooper, an act of humanity failed to become an act of courage, because to prosecute CGM would expose him to the most heinous charge imaginable in the left's world, the charge of racism. And the charge, once made, is irretievably true. Once someone is a racist, they lose all place in civilized society. Their ideas are outcast, and so are they. Richard Brodhead and Our Man Steel shored up their liberal enlightenment credentials by throwing their own students under the bus for a person now alleged to be a murderer, on top of all her other transgressions. And what will they say. Oh, we didn't know, the facts just kept achangin', how were we to know. And besides, if we had done the honest thing and stood by our students we would have lost our jobs, Durham would have burned in riots. So better to coddle a future murderer than risk their august positions. Reginald Daye died for the sins of Richard Brodhead, Robert Steel, Rev. Barber, Wahneema Lubiano and too many others to name. But they know who they are. At the Final Judgment they will have to explain to the risen Lord how they could have failed so miserably. And somehow I don't think the race, class, gender trope will play that well with Him. "Do unto others as you would have done unto you" would have been a better plan. Maybe now some can try.
.

I say to Roy Cooper what I said then - follow the Law and you won't have any problems.

Crystal was let off because of her skin color - and she had no intention of going away quietly whether they wanted her to or not.

The Law was not followed by men that were sworn to it.

If there is any Justice in North Carolina, Judge Abe Jones will have to answer for his behavior.

As to the multitudes of her enablers, benefactors, and defenders - Crystal will only ravage the black community if she gets out.

Somehow I doubt they'll stop to consider the truth of the matter though.
